It is quite possible to make a wooden table with your own hands, with minimal carpenter skills. Today, the market offers a wide range of furniture in a variety of styles. But if you make an exclusive wooden table with your own hands, investing a fantasy creation, you can use it to bring a unique charm to your home. Yes, and save the family budget it will help. Although many people do not like to make money for the sake of money, they get great pleasure from it.

Table of drawers

Increasingly, craftsmen make furniture from trash that is intended for recycling. For example, to make a country table with your own hands from wood, you do not need special skills and expensive materials at all. It is enough to use plywood containers from under fruits and vegetables. Four pieces are required for the table.

Boxesput on its side on the longer side. The short side of one is connected with screws to the bottom of the other. The top of the container looks out to the side. Thus, they form a square with a void in the middle.

The gap in the middle of the structure is covered with a piece of plywood. It is fixed with corners or self-tapping screws under the first crossbar of the box.

The square recess in the center is filled with pebbles, expanded clay, shells, plastic stones for aquariums. To ease the pressure on the plywood bottom, the filler can be made from papier-mâché, giving the details the shape of stones and painting.

To protect yourself from splinters and scratches, you need to carefully sand open surfaces. For beauty, the table is treated with stain or burned. It is varnished on top.

You can fix the countertop on top of the structure. Then there is no point in filling the void in the middle. For this purpose, use plywood, boards, an old countertop from another table. You can cut and assemble the table top from two side pieces of old polished cabinets. Fix the tabletop with metal corners and self-tapping screws.

Table made of wooden pallets

It's easy to make a charming DIY wood garden table from waste pallets. These remain after transporting refrigerators, stoves, washing machines.

Two or three pallets are stacked upside down. Fasten them with screws or metal corners. You can leave the table like this. But some prefer to cover the top with a countertop.

To do this, use glass or a sheet of plywood. There is an option to lay parts from polished cabinets on a pallet rack. For stability, they are also fastened with screws or metal corners.

You can give the table mobility with the help of furniture wheels. You can buy them in stores that sell everything you need for repairs and for the home.

Bed tables

It is not necessary to buy boards, plywood, fiberboard or chipboard for furniture. Often, home craftsmen use what they have to make a wooden table with their own hands. Old, boring furniture can be easily turned into a beautiful and modern one. It just takes a little imagination and work.

For example, from one wooden bed you can make two small tables. They will help you make tables with your own hands from wood drawings.

Drawings for the manufacture of tables from the bed
Drawings for the manufacture of tables from the bed
  1. The bed is sawn. In drawing No. 1, the cut lines are shown with colored dotted lines. The result is 4 parts: under numbers 1 and 2 - future tabletops with two legs, under numbers 3 and 4 - third legs. It is only important to make measurements and calculations before work so as not to be mistaken with the length of the legs: either the length of the bed is divided into exactly 3 parts, or one or both parts with countertops are made somewhat shorter than its third.
  2. Now it remains only to attach the third leg to the table top. This can be done using metal corners and screws. They fix it in the middle of the long side of the tabletop closer to the edge, as shown in drawing No. 2, that is, on the opposite side of the twofinished legs from the bed frame.

You can leave the tables like this. But for strength, it is better to fix the legs along the bottom with additional fasteners made of rails.

  • If the coating needs restoration, the top layer is removed, sanded, stained and varnished.
  • The second option is pasting the visible surfaces with a wood-like film.
  • The third restoration option is suitable for those who make a children's table with their own hands from wood, using an old bed as a starting material. Painting the surface and painting it in a fabulous style is appropriate here.
  • There is also a fourth option: gluing a beautiful paper pattern (ornament, plot illustration, calendar photo) onto the table top, followed by coating with liquid glass.

It is not at all difficult to make such wooden tables with your own hands. And you can use them as magazine, children's, coffee.

Hi-tech coffee table

To work, you will need the following tools: ruler, tape measure, chisel, screwdriver, file, hacksaw, sandpaper, grinder, jigsaw.

Hi-tech style involves the simplest solutions both in the form of furniture and in its design. Therefore, we will make a coffee table with our own hands from wood with a rectangular top and four legs.

First you need to prepare the lid. It can be made plank or from fiberboard, MDF, chipboard or chipboard. We should not be afraid of warping of the material, since they do not have to be wetted often, and the room in which they are usually installed, the drophumidity is minimal.

Various designs can be used. It is easy to make coffee or coffee tables made of wood with your own hands, the photos of which are presented in this section.

  1. Before starting work, you need to decide on the shape of the countertop.
  2. Then the table support option is considered.

The shapes of countertops are round, oval, rectangular, square, with cut rounded corners, the letter "G" and even any shape. The latter are described below in the sections on tables made of solid wood or saw cuts.

Supports are made of rectangular slabs or boards, metal frames, a piece of trunk or hemp, or in the form of traditional legs.

Similar table support designs are often used for rectangular and square tables.

Instructions for attaching legs to a table top on a wooden frame

They will help you make a rectangular coffee table made of wood with your own hands drawings with a step-by-step description of the work.

Method of attaching table legs
Method of attaching table legs

Woodenthe frame with which the table legs are attached is made of four wooden boards. At their ends, spikes or a comb are cut out with a chisel - protrusions.

At the top of the legs you need to make grooves, that is, notches. It is important to gouge the recesses in such a way that the spikes fit into them, but are not too spacious.

The tabletop will be attached exactly to the frame, so you need to calculate the location of the grooves and spikes so that the upper part of the structure is even - both the legs and the side cut of the frame are on the same level.

Pour wood glue into the grooves and insert the spikes of the frame boards. It is best to do this work in steps: first glue each leg to one of the frame boards. After drying, two parts are connected into one. The third step will be gluing the structure together.

Fixing the tabletop to the frame with legs can be done using corner or zigzag brackets. Sometimes ordinary screws or self-tapping screws are used for this purpose, having previously made a groove in the frame with a chisel. It should have a cone-shaped appearance and not be through. Thus, there will be a place for piercing the frame with a self-tapping screw and the possibility for screwing it in.

Diy dressing table

This piece of furniture is not essential. Many get along just fine without it. If desired, to simplify the work, you can make a dressing table made of wood with your own hands using the coffee technology described above. They just hang a mirror on the wall nearby.

If you make, for example, a do-it-yourself wooden dressing table in the Empire style, then itwill turn an ordinary room into a boudoir of a noble lady from the past. Although, of course, you will have to think over the rest of the interior in the room so that such a piece of furniture does not look pretentious in it.

The vanity table is not designed to be heavy, so its design can be light. Furniture boards are perfect for work, from which it is convenient to cut out details.

  • For such a luxurious table, you will need two rectangular sidewalls on top, with a figured cutout below for beauty. These walls should fit the top of the front to the start of the legs.
  • The table top is plain rectangular.
  • On the front of the table you need to cut holes for the drawers. The front and back sides are curly, identical to each other.
  • Rails for pulling out drawers are made from rails. They need to be attached with brackets to the front and back walls.
  • When the bottom of the table is ready, attach the table top. Zigzag or corner brackets are suitable as fasteners.
  • The finished table is painted with white paint.
  • You can add an embossed plastic pattern or overlay a gold ornament through a stencil.
  • Beautiful carved handles complete the luxury of the dressing table.

But not all people like pretentious things with elaborate decor elements. Some prefer strict styles. They can be content with a coffee table, hanging over it on the wall or placing a mirror directly on it.

Folding tables

Such designs are good options for small apartments. You can make a garden, children's, coffee, coffee or dressing folding table out of wood with your own hands.

To work you will need the following materials:

  • thick plywood for countertop;
  • bars for legs about 70 cm long (4 pieces);
  • bars for crossbeams 45 cm long (2 pcs.);
  • crossbars for fixing legs 50 cm long (4 pcs.);
  • metal hooks to secure the legs when unfolding the table;
  • bolts;
  • nuts;
  • washers;
  • furniture hinges;
  • nails;
  • sandpaper;
  • coating materials.

They will help you make a folding table with your own hands from wood, photos and drawings.

  1. The legs are connected in pairs with crossbars at a distance of about thirty centimeters from each other, using bolts, screws or nails.
  2. The crossbars are attached to the countertop from the back side.
  3. Finished legs are movably connected with bolts in the form of frames crosswise.
  4. One frame is attached to the crossbar of the table top with furniture hinges. The second remains free.
  5. Metal hooks are fixed on the second crossbar of the tabletop, into which a free frame with legs will be inserted during the operation of the table.
  6. The surface is treated with sandpaper so that there are no nicks and burrs.
  7. Varnish and paints cover the finished product, give itdry.
  8. Folding table assembly drawing

Sometimes folding tables are made stationary.

To assemble them, you need a main tabletop, a pair of legs (shorter than the length of the main tabletop from the wall to the opposite edge), two leg rails, a narrow tabletop holder (15-30 cm wide), self-tapping screws, nails, furniture hinges (four pieces), paint or varnish.

The order of work is simple:

  1. A narrow tabletop is attached to the wall to a height equal to the length of the legs.
  2. The legs are connected with crossbars using nails or self-tapping screws: one at the very top, and the second a third from the bottom.
  3. The top bar is connected to the back of the main tabletop. For this, furniture hinges are used.
  4. The entire resulting structure must be connected to a narrow tabletop attached to the wall with furniture hinges.

The table is almost ready to use. If desired, it can be painted or varnished.

It should only be remembered that this design is rather weak, as it rests on furniture hinges. Therefore, it is not worth the risk of loading the table with rather heavy objects.

Diy solid wood table

Not everyone can afford such luxurious furniture. Since it is impossible to make a wooden table of this type with your own hands without special tools for cutting a trunk that is large enough in diameter. Yes, and transporting a wooden array is very difficult.

However, if you managed to find a suitable material and it is possible to saw the trunkalong, you can make a luxurious exclusive coffee table with your own hands from wood, which no one else will have. It is only important to find a tree whose branches are thick enough, as they will serve as table legs, and they should be located on at least three sides.

Although an array is allowed both with one branch-leg and without them at all. After all, instead of branches, you can fix the sawn trunk on welded metal square or rectangular frames.

The choice of material for the table should be taken very seriously. Wood that is too dry can crack, while wood that is too damp will warp over time. Therefore, it is easier to order material from suppliers. Moreover, cutting a tree in the forest without special permission is a matter for jurisdiction.

To work with the array you will need an electric grinder. The upper part of the table - a fractional cut of the trunk - is carefully ground, polished, varnished.

The upper part of the table - the share cut of the trunk - is carefully sanded, polished, varnished. The remaining surfaces, if desired, can be left in the bark or cleaned of it. In any case, the treatment of wood from corrosion and coating it with varnish is recommended by experts.

Tables with solid wood tops

Interior items made of natural wood look very nice. At first glance, it seems that it is impossible to make such wooden tables with your own hands. Photos with them, presented below, emphasize the amazing charm of the interior.

Of course, they do not fit into every design style. But, for example, in a country house or in a garden, such a table made of sawn wood would be extremely appropriate. It is not difficult to make it with your own hands if you have a tool and a tree for cutting, an electric grinder and a desire plus patience.

During operation, it is worth remembering that if a crack forms in the disk, this place must be "sewn up" with metal staples. Otherwise, it will go deeper, and over time the table will become unusable.

There are different ways to make them. The first includes do-it-yourself coffee or coffee tables made of wood installed on welded metal frames. The photo shows that the saw cut of the wood from which the countertop is made goes well with the support of a clear geometric shape.

The legs of the table are two welded metal frames with holes on one side. Self-tapping screws go through them to the bottom of the countertop.

Table from a saw cut of a tree on a leg from a trunk
Table from a saw cut of a tree on a leg from a trunk

You can make a table from a cut tree with your own hands with one leg from a piece of the trunk near the root. This item looks more natural, as close to nature as possible. This is the second production option. The tabletop is also attached to the hemp with self-tapping screws. You should not completely drive them into the leg.

Then, holes are drilled in the saw cut on one side at the points corresponding to the protruding hats. The depth of the holes is also adjusted by the height of the protruding parts.self-tapping screws. For strength, you can fix the mount with glue. But if you do not do this, the tabletop will be removable, which has its advantages.

They make wooden legs for such tables. Usually four are required. Keeping in mind that natural wood is much heavier than the materials from which modern factory furniture is made, the legs must be strong enough, strong enough to be able to withstand a lot of weight. They can be fixed with metal corners and self-tapping screws if they are rectangular.

For round legs, it is recommended to make a notch in the countertop from the inside. Then their cavity is filled with wood glue. After that, you need to insert the legs into the recesses. Excess glue is removed. But this method of fastening is considered the most unreliable - it is more suitable for light furniture.

It should be noted that cuts for tables are made both transverse and equity. The choice depends on the shape of the countertop that the owners of this type of furniture prefer.

It is very important to carefully treat the surface of the table. For this you will need:

  • electric grinder;
  • 120 grit sandpaper and above;
  • wood glue;
  • epoxy with hardener;
  • varnish.

The process itself is simple, but very painstaking.

  • Use an electric grinder first.
  • Then the sections are treated with coarse-grained sandpaper: the roughness should be minimal.
  • The recesses and voids are filled with epoxy resin, which is previously given the desired shade usingvarious additives.
  • After the resin hardens, the surface is ground again.
  • The last step is to varnish the countertop.

Table with a prefabricated top made of wooden saw cuts

The easiest way to find material for this design. Here you can use discs of various diameters, even very small ones. It is only important to observe the identity of the thickness of the cuts.

In addition to disks, the master will need:

  • tabletop base: plywood or wood, or a finished table that has been decided to be restored;
  • wood glue;
  • epoxy resin with hardener to fill voids between cuts;
  • electric grinder;
  • 120 grit sandpaper and above.

Following step-by-step instructions, you can create a real masterpiece.

Preparing the base for the countertop

First of all, you need to cut out the base of the countertop of the desired shape. If plywood is used, it must be over 12mm thick. It is not recommended to take chipboard for this purpose, since this material can warp or even fall apart due to changes in humidity. An excellent result is achieved when using a finished old table with a sufficiently high load-bearing capacity to avoid deformation.

Mounting legs

If the table is made from scratch, it is best to take care of its supports from the very beginning. Then, when the countertop is assembled from saw cuts, it will be dangerous to carry out such work: you can hopelessly ruin all your work.

The old table chosen for decoration should also becheck for strength. If necessary, strengthen the old fastenings, tighten the bolts or glue the legs.

Glue wooden discs to the base of the countertop

First, you need to lay out on the basis of all available end cuts in such a way that there are as few voids as possible so that the pattern of the disks is combined with each other. You can use trees of various species and even colors. If you successfully compose the material, it will turn out beautiful and original.

Then, each saw cut is glued to the base with carpentry glue and left in this form until completely dry.

Decoration of the sides of the table top

They are made from plywood, wooden slats or tin. Then, along the perimeter or circumference, if it is decided to make a round table out of wood with your own hands, these sides are attached. They should be slightly higher than the thickness of the cuts. You can use nails or self-tapping screws.

Epoxy preparation

Both packaging components are mixed immediately before work. To give the desired color to the composition, coffee, soot, bronze powder are used. It is important to achieve exactly the shade that is most suitable for such a composition. But don't experiment too long, as the resin cures fairly quickly.

Filling the surface

Carefully fill all the voids of the countertop with the composition. The surface should be as flat as possible. But you should avoid getting colored resin on the cuts themselves so that the pattern of the tree is not disturbed.

After complete drying, you can fill the entire surface with a transparent epoxy compoundalong with the discs to make it absolutely flat.

Sanding countertops

This process is the final one. After the sides are removed (if provided for by the design), they begin to work with an electric grinder. First use the roughest emery wheel. Gradually, the master changes the nozzles to smaller ones.

At the very end of grinding, sandpaper is used. This requires manual work.

A huge variety of tables that are completely different in purpose, design styles, methods of making tables, if desired, can be made by hand. Only a fraction of the total is shown here.
