Today, a wide range of different conductive systems is presented to the attention of consumers in the electrical equipment market. MGTF wire is in great demand among craftsmen. A description of its characteristics is contained in this article.
Introduction
MGTF wire is a heat-resistant mounting conductive product. The function of the conductor is performed by a copper core. Fluorine-containing polymers are used as an insulating coating. In production, such plastic is also called fluoroplastic. Due to its characteristics, the MGTF wire has been widely used in various areas of the electric power industry.
Almost all electrical installations designed for voltage up to 250 V are equipped with these conductive systems. The color of the fluoroplastic is white-pink. Since no other coating is applied to it, this color has become the defining color for MGTF wires.
Abbreviation
Information about the design and technical characteristics of the MGTF wire can be found on the product label.
Because there is no "A" in the abbreviation,it means that the conductor is not made of aluminum.
The letter "M" indicates that this wire is a mounting wire. The letter "G" indicates a high rate of flexibility of this conductive system. Wire MGTF (GOST 22483-2012) is a product of 5-6 class of flexibility.
The presence of the symbol "T" in the designation indicates that the product has heat-resistant properties. Such a wire can be used at temperatures exceeding 100 degrees. The letter "F" indicates the material from which the insulating coating is made. In this case, it is PTFE.
Additional symbols
Depending on the insulating coating, some MGTF wires, in addition to standard symbols, may also contain additional ones. For example, if the letter “E” is present in the abbreviation, this means that this wire is equipped with a shielding coating. It is made of tinned copper wire. Such a wire is not subject to electromagnetic radiation. Therefore, this conductive system will cost more.
The presence of the letter combination "EF" indicates that the wire contains a protective screen and a fluoroplastic layer. Such a product has improved mechanical characteristics.
The letter "MS" indicates that the PTFE layer is additionally sintered. The wire made in this way has high moisture-resistant properties.
Numerical designation
In the marking of the wires, the letters are followed by numbers. First ofthem indicates the number of conductive wires. If the product is equipped with two cores, the number “2” is present in the marking. The last digital designation indicates the section. Depending on the number of cores, this parameter varies between 0.03 - 2.5 mm sq.
Application
MGTF wire has established itself as a high-quality electrical connector in the field of installation. There are two ways to work with these wires: static and moving. Blocks and devices can be a place for placing MGTF. Aircraft, shipbuilding and industrial structures are equipped with this conductive product. Also, MGTF wire is used for electrical installation in residential buildings.
Product device
The conductor is equipped with several wires of smaller cross section twisted together. The diameter of the wire depends on which flexibility class the product belongs to. For example, if a class 5 wire has a cross section of 0.5 mm2, then each of its individual wires should not exceed 0.33 mm. If this product belongs to the 6th class, then the diameter can be 0.31 mm.
Depending on what section the wire has, a certain thickness of insulation is provided for it. If the cross section of the MGTF wire is 0 35 mm square, then the thickness of the insulating coating should be 0.18 mm. With a cross section of 0.05 mm square. insulation thickness will be 0.12mm.
With a nominal cross section of the MGTF wire 0 2 mm square. its outer diameter will be 1.04 mm. Such a product is equipped with nineteen copper wires with a diameter of 0.12 mm.
For screen (copper braid) clear wiresno regulation is provided. This parameter is defined differently by each manufacturer. Predominantly the standard thickness of the shielding coating of the MGTF wire is 0 12 mm.
The last element of the product design is a shell made of PTFE. It is the same thickness as the main insulation.
Mechanical properties
The main parameters of mechanical characteristics include:
- Flexibility. There are two flexibility classes for MGTF: 5 and 6.
- Temperature. This conductive product can be operated at temperatures from -60 to +220 degrees. If necessary, this figure can be higher. MGTF can self-ignite at a temperature of 520 degrees. However, the permissible limit for the product is a temperature regime that does not exceed 220 degrees. This wire is undesirable to operate at temperatures up to 260 degrees. Otherwise, the product will start to melt. This process is accompanied by the release of perfluoroisobutylene, tetrafluoroethylene, carbon monoxide and carbon fluoride.
- Resistant to acids, alkalis, fats and solvents. In addition, this wire has frost resistance. MGTF can be operated in an aggressive environment.
The service life of the wire is at least twenty years.
Weaknesses
MGTF wires have their drawbacks:
- The product can be used in an environment where the humidity does not exceed 80%. This is due to the high moisture resistance of MGTF.
- The product is not recommended for use in rooms that are characterized by sudden changes in temperature. Otherwise, moisture, getting under the protective layer, will reduce its insulating properties.
- MGTF insulation has a high fluidity: under heavy load, it stretches. The thickness of the protective coating is thus reduced. The tinned copper wires themselves, which make up the insulating layer, can become untangled. This entails a breakdown of the conductive system.
Electrical properties
MGTF wires are designed for operation at a rated voltage of alternating current 250V and a frequency of 5 kHz. DC current should be no more than 350V.
The indicator of internal resistance depends on what section the product has. For example, if the cross section of the MGTF wire is 0 07 mm2, then its resistance will be 271 Ohm / km. Such a product consists of 14 copper wires, each of which has a diameter of 0.08 mm. For MGTF with a cross section of 0.5 mm square. resistance will be 39Ω/km.
Indicator of the resistance of the insulating layer. This parameter is greatly influenced by air humidity. For example, for MGTF, under normal conditions, the insulation resistance is at least 100 thousand Mohm per 1 meter. If the air temperature exceeds 200 degrees, then the resistance will drop to 10 thousand Mohm. This indicator will decrease even more if in a room in which there is no condensation, the humidity of the air reaches 98%. In this case, the MGTF insulation resistance will not exceed 100 Mohm per 1 meter.
