No matter how advanced modern cars are, they, like any other equipment, periodically have some problems. And, of course, the most unpleasant are the malfunctions of the elements that make up the engine system. The ability to independently and timely identify a particular problem in your car helps to avoid serious and costly repairs in the future. For example, you noticed that the hydraulic lifters knock. But there are many reasons for this. The main thing is to identify them correctly.

Possible causes of knocking in hydraulic lifters

As already mentioned, the factors that cause this problem can be completely different, but they are all conventionally divided into two groups. The first includes malfunctions that have arisen in the mechanical or hydraulic part of the compensators. To the second - malfunctions in engine systems that are responsible for supplying oil to them. Each of these two groups, in turn, consists of several possible breakdowns, due to which hydraulic lifters knock.

Factorsfirst group

• The surfaces of the plunger pair are worn out.

• The oil supply valve is stuck or broken.

• There are obvious defects on the elements of the hydraulic compensator itself.

• Dirt on the surfaces of the compensator.• Airing the HA system.

Factors of the second group

• Entry of air into the oil, resulting in a decrease in its compressibility. This can happen for various reasons, such as too high or too low fluid level.

• The oil filter is not working. This can happen due to contamination.

• Clogged oil passages that supply oil to the hydraulic lifter system.• Use of poor quality or unsuitable oil. A specific type of substance is intended for use in certain climatic conditions. If the “wrong” oil is poured into the system, then external factors can affect its viscosity, and due to its inappropriate performance, the engine will overheat, and this will adversely affect its mechanical characteristics.

So, due to one or more of the above reasons, the GC system may fail. However, it should be noted that most often the hydraulic lifters do not knock all at once, but only one of them. The easiest way to detect a problematic element is with the help of acoustic diagnostics. To do this, the operability of the GK mechanism is checked. It must be taken into account that theit is quite difficult to determine the reason why the hydraulic lifters are knocking, so it is best to contact a technical station. Specialists disassemble the parts, wash them thoroughly and then check the ability of each of them to hold the force. In this case, a mandatory replacement of consumables (filters, gaskets) and oil is made. If a faulty GC is found, it is replaced with a new one. But it may also happen that even after all these actions, the hydraulic lifters knock, as before, which means, alas, you should prepare for a lengthy and expensive engine repair.
