A device designed to pass gaseous and liquid media in one direction and block their reverse motion is called a reed valve. It was used in axial fans, where atmospheric air is excluded from entering the room, and in internal combustion engines, which prevents the return of fuel from the cylinder to the carburetor.

The product for fans consists of a housing, in the bearings of which blades of a specific shape are fixed. The bearings keep the valve free to move when the fan is operating at low temperatures. A working fan supplies air to the blades, which are constantly in the open position. After the operation stops, the blades return to their original position, due to which they block the valve section.

There is a specially modified reed valve. Tulip - its second name, at the heart of its design is a box-shaped body of four walls. On the axes of the housing, profiledshutters made of galvanized steel. Door junction type - lock.

From simple, one-vane based, flap check valve devices are distinguished by a low response inertia and a lower standard flow rate that opens it. It is especially advantageous to use such a product in axial types of fans where the flow speed is lower compared to radial types.

When it comes to internal combustion engines, the reed valve solves several issues for vehicle owners. Its petals are made of flexible materials. When the piston goes to compress the mixture, due to the pressure difference in the communicating chambers, due to their flexibility, they bend, opening holes in the valve body through which the fuel mixture flows. The onset of the blowdown phase when the piston moves down creates a direction of pressure on the opposite side, which is why the petals are pressed against the body, blocking the holes, which does not allow the mixture to roll back in the opposite direction. Among the positive qualities of the product are the following:

  • Fuel economy. The upward movement of the piston creates a vacuum in the crankcase. Then, through the carburetor, air is sucked in there, mixed with gasoline, which forms a fuel mixture. The mixture flows as long as the piston moves up. As soon as it starts to go down, the pressure acts on the petal valve, and the petals block the flow of the mixture back. It will be clean around the carburetor, andthe mixture is not released into the atmosphere, losses are minimized.
  • Engine power. The petal valve allows you to increase power at low and medium speeds. The secret is that more mixture gets into the crankcase and into the cylinder, since the portion previously released into the atmosphere is used for its intended purpose.

Squat vehicle. This phenomenon is a direct consequence of the previous property - an increase in power.

  • Stable idling. The fact is that the idle mode consists of low engine speeds. Just at these speeds, the effect of the reverse motion of the mixture is most pronounced. The reed valve lets the exact amount of mixture into the crankcase with each stroke of the piston.
  • Easy engine start. The inflow of a stable portion of the mixture into the cylinders makes it easier to start the engine, as they say - “with a pinch”.
