Floor plastic skirting boards are designed specifically to hide the mounting gap between the floor covering and walls. They have replaced the more traditional wooden products. Floor plastic plinths can be made as thin as possible, since in combination with carpet or laminate they perform exclusively decorative functions. The thickness of these products remains relevant only when laying parquet, because in this case the gap often reaches two centimeters. Everything is in direct proportion to the floor area.
Purpose
Floor plastic plinths often serve to protect walls from various damages: moisture during cleaning or hits by furniture, cleaning equipment, feet. In most cases, these products are made from foamed polyvinyl chloride. foaming processallows you to make the mass of skirting boards minimal. Special stabilizers are added to the composition of this substance, which makes the product as resistant to moisture, ultraviolet radiation and harsh chemicals that you can use when cleaning.
Since the plastic floor plinth, whose height can be from three centimeters, does not absorb moisture, it is not afraid of rotting and corrosion. It is easier to choose such a product by color, which will best suit the chosen flooring. The plinth can be painted to look like wood, imitating the natural structure. A cable can be laid under the plastic plinth, for which a special channel is provided in its design.
Installation
It is important to take care that the cable placed in the baseboard is not accidentally pierced by a nail or screw. However, the cable does not have to be laid during the installation of the baseboard, this can be done later. You will need to loosen the screws in order to install it in the groove later.
The process of installing skirting boards starts from the corner of the room. They are twisted with self-tapping screws at a distance of about 40-70 centimeters. When it becomes necessary to connect to a corner, a suitable piece is measured and installed in its place. It is worth considering the millimeters covering the technical gaps in the connectors.
Plastic floor plinth wide, as well as narrow, can be fixed in one of the following ways:
- using glue;
- via clips or special fasteners;
- susing self-tapping screws;
- using dowel-nails.
Some subtleties
If the installation of the plinth is expected for a long period of time, while it is not planned to be changed or dismantled, then you can use glue. Clip fasteners are appropriate to use only in cases where there are no cable channels in the baseboard. When installing in this way, it must be remembered that the cost of the clips is not included in the price of the skirting board itself. The surface of the walls must be smooth, otherwise the product will not hold. The most aesthetic and practical is the method of fastening with self-tapping screws, since in this case there is a special cable channel.
As you can see, floor plastic skirting boards are a very useful invention of modern industry.
