Felt sapling - an attractive perennial plant with white small flowers shaped like an asterisk; is a decorative decoration of any rock garden, although in nature it is more common as a weed. A representative of the clove family, yaskolka comes from the Balkans, lives almost all over the world, and is most often found in the northern regions. Larvae and Lepidoptera often feed on the flowers of the snail.
Description
In nature, more than 100 species of this plant are represented - inconspicuous, modest, complementing any landscape (from an alpine hill in the garden to the endless expanses of the steppe). Many species of chickweed have hairy leaves, and the height of the plant varies from 5 to 45 centimeters.
The color of the leaves is green, with purple or red tips, some species have a silvery tint. The shape of the leaflets is diverse: narrow, wide, elliptical, ovate. The flowers are notexceed 2 cm in diameter, appear in spring and can bloom all summer. Stems simple, branched, sometimes terete (fusiform).
The most popular among gardeners is the felt sapling, the cultivation of which does not require special knowledge and effort. Otherwise it is called "summer snow". The white flowers of the plant, which characterize the felt snail ("crystal waterfall") in the summer heat, resemble a snow carpet located on silver-gray leaves. Flowering in this variety lasts 30 days.
Skolka as an element of garden decor
Yaskolka is used for decorating alpine slides, decorating rose gardens, low borders, creating hanging barriers, and also as a ground cover plant. Densely matted stems form a dense carpet of silvery-white color, which is given to it by small pubescent leaves of a silvery hue. The white flowers appearing in June make this natural rug even more expressive. Planted between the stones, the snail rather quickly covers them with a fluffy white carpet, enlivening the external picture.
Felt sapling, reviews of the unpretentiousness of which cause a great desire to settle it in your own garden, grows close to the ground. Gardeners say that, despite the fact that this plant is a ground cover (that is, it is able to cover the ground), it does not have any kind of predatory growth pattern, although it spreads quickly enough to nearby areas.
Reproduction
Seeds, cuttings and division of the bush -three ways in which the felt sapling breeds. Growing from seeds is quite laborious, therefore it is used less often than the other two methods. When a flower is propagated indoors, seed germination will occur half a month after planting. Sprouts are planted in the garden at the end of all frosts or in autumn. If the sapling is grown from seeds, then it will begin to bloom only next year. Cuttings are made in the spring, the resulting shoots are rooted in a bed in partial shade or a greenhouse.
Felt chick feels good on sandy-loamy or light soils; it is recommended to plant the plant in sunny places, maintaining a distance of 25-30 cm when planting. It will not be superfluous to feed with organic matter (5-7 kg per square meter). It is desirable to transplant every 5-7 years. Jaskolka is photophilous, drought- and frost-resistant.
Felt shard: care
Caring for such an unpretentious hardy plant consists in weeding and getting rid of excess shoots, which can be used to propagate it. Shoots that have faded should be cut and removed. Felt jaskolka calmly refers to pruning, which should be done regularly to give the plant a neat decorative look. The flower does not like an excess of moisture, therefore moderate regular watering is recommended in the summer and its reduction the rest of the time. Sometimes in snowless winters, the plant may die, so it is recommended to cover it with coniferous spruce branches. Felt shank is resistant to pests, but with an excess of moisture it canfungus.
Natural garden carpet
The flower of the felted flower goes well with various plants, it looks especially beautiful against the background of blue or blue bells. In small rock gardens, undersized species are used, forming picturesque rugs 5-10 cm high, not inferior in their decorative effect to the best tall representatives. It grows with great speed, quickly filling empty spaces, sweeping away small, weaker plants in its path, and giving way to meekly strong and large representatives of the flora. Felt sapling is used to create a background, as well as a ground cover under trees and shrubs.
It is the stalk that can fill the devastated areas in the garden: unpretentious to water, it will enliven stone areas, even those where other flowers do not take root. Flowers solitary, white, up to 1.5 cm in diameter. Flowering lasts about 30 days. It can also grow quietly in the shade of trees and under bushes, while feeling quite tolerable. Against the backdrop of trees, the jaskolka looks very harmonious, enlivening the external picture. This is a great backdrop for bushes. Popular as an ornamental plant, the felt snail can be found in many gardens around the world.
Types of shards
For decoration, gardeners also use alpine chickweed - a short-growing plant that stands out among its relatives with a kind of pubescence. A decorative look can be given to it by the timely removal of dried flowers and cutting the leaves by a few centimeters.
