Plastic panel ceilings are becoming more and more popular every year. They have become an integral part of the concept of a modern and stylish interior for both residential and office premises.
Plastic panel ceilings have several important advantages at once:
- excellent aesthetic qualities;
- adequate cost of materials;
- ease of installation and subsequent maintenance of ceilings;
- no need for occasional repairs or touch-ups;
- the possibility of implementing spot lighting and installing various utilities under them;
- compatibility with heat and sound insulating materials;
- moisture resistance.
But, as you know, even the best material has its drawbacks. And ceilings made of plastic panels are no exception. For example, their mechanical strength leaves much to be desired - cracks and scratches can appear even as a result of a slight impact. In addition, plasticreacts very negatively to direct UV radiation.
Installation of plastic panel ceilings
1. Frame construction
Without it, plastic panel ceilings cannot exist. Their durability and beauty depend on the quality of the frame. Therefore, this stage should be given maximum attention. The frame can be made of metal profiles or wooden bars.
Wooden blocks |
Metal profile |
Place should be perpendicular to the direction of laying the panels. | The plastic ceiling is located at a distance of 10-15 cm from the base. |
Depending on the availability of insulation, lighting systems, etc., the spacing should be from 40 to 60 cm. | First of all, you need to fix the profile guides with holes drilled every 40 cm (diameter - 6 mm). The profile is applied to the wall so that the necessary holes can also be drilled in it. |
The bars should be in the same plane (therefore, the base - the ceiling - must be perfectly flat). | The lines on the ceiling are beaten along the lines of the proposed mounting of the rack profiles. |
The bars are fixed with the help of reliable fasteners (anchor bolts, dowels, etc.) and a perforator. |
According to the marks made, suspensions are installed (step - 0.6-0.8 m). The distance between adjacent bearing profiles is about 0.4-0.6 m. |
Rack profiles are inserted into the guides, and then attached to the hangers using metal screws.
To make the structure even, you should stretch the chopping cord between the extreme points of the guide structures.
To improve sound insulation in places where the profile touches the wall, use a foam or foam pad. |
2. Trim
Installation of the ceiling of plastic panels consists of two stages. The first is the installation of the frame. And the second is the sheathing of the frame itself with plastic panels. The first panel should be directed with the ridge towards the wall. Next, the edge of each panel is installed in the groove of the previous one. They are attached to the frame with self-tapping screws. It is important to place fasteners exclusively in the mounting strips of the panels. After the main work is completed, it remains only to install a decorative frieze with glue in those places where the panels adjoin the walls.
