Nowadays, any furniture is on sale, so it is not particularly difficult to furnish a home comfortably. But, nevertheless, the manufacture of various furniture accessories with their own hands still attracts many. For example, the manufacture of such a useful thing as a bookcase made of wood. With your own hands, you can make it literally in one evening. But in any house there is a free corner that can be decorated with such a bookcase.
Required tools and materials
To make a corner wooden bookcase you will need:
- sheets of plywood (6 mm thick);
- ruler and pencil for marking;
- cutting tools;
- sandpaper;
- screws;
- PVA glue.
Assembly steps
First measure the angle in the room where the whatnot will be placed. These measurements are transferred to a sheet of plywood, which will serve as a blank for the shelf. An angle of 90 ° is measured, and then an arc is drawn from its top, constituting a quarter of a circle,whose radius is, for example, 250 mm.
On one side of the future shelf, grooves are marked into which the racks will be inserted. Then their sides are carefully washed down. Turning the workpiece over, cut the same grooves on the other side. So it will be necessary to arrange all the shelves that make up the bookcase made of wood. With your own hands, make a template for the rest of the shelves in the same way.
To make the second shelf, the finished template is applied to the next sheet of plywood and outlined with a pencil, and then cut out according to this markup. The ends of all sides of the shelf are cleaned with sandpaper.
Shelves must be mounted on vertical racks. This is a kind of frame that makes up the whatnot. It is quite easy to make it with your own hands from wood. As a blank for racks, you can use cuttings from a shovel. For a bookcase of three shelves, racks with a length of 0.5-0.6 m are suitable. Marking is done on their front side.
On the racks mark the location of the shelves, and then the surface of both is carefully polished, and only after that do the marking of the holes for the screws.
Your wood whatnot gradually begins to emerge. With your own hands, you can make the front side of the semicircular shelves by processing the workpiece with a manual milling cutter (diameter - 6 mm). In this case, care should be taken - the workpieces must be well clamped and take a stable position. After that, the surface is again polished with sandpaper.
To finally fit the uprights to the slots cut into the shelves, use a circular saw. All shelves for convenienceput together and in several fittings combine them with the grooves. The grooves are finished with a chisel.
Final assembly
Now the do-it-yourself wooden bookcase is ready for final assembly. First, the racks are adjusted to the middle shelf. Moreover, glue for fastening is not yet used, but only screws are used. The upper and lower shelves are fastened with screws (length - 50 mm). After connecting all the elements, the bookcase is checked for stability and a final fit is made.
Then the screws are unscrewed and the entire structure is dismantled. This is done in order to coat all the grooves with PVA glue. After that, everything is assembled again, screws are screwed in, and here it is - a bookcase! It is very easy to make it with your own hands from wood. Now only excess glue remains. After complete drying, remove with a chisel, and varnish the finished bookcase. Acrylic varnish is best suited for this.
