Glasses on the windows are a very important detail of any room, the last "instance" that keeps it warm. Double glazing is often used to reduce heat loss. There are two ways to add a second window layer.
One of the ways is to replace the existing glass with special plates (sealed modules). In this case, tinted double glazing can be used. The second way is to install an additional layer on the inside of the existing one. It should be said that secondary glazing is considered the most practical method.
Today you can find various types of frames for self-installation. It is possible to carry out both casement and sliding glazing.
Glasses are attached directly to the frames or to special tracks located inside the openings.
Double glazing has an alternative. It can be replaced with transparent PVC or acetate film. It is fixed inside the frame with double-sided tape. It is considered effective, although not strong enough.
Double glazing not only reduces heat loss, but alsoeliminates the so-called "cold zones" near the window. The extra layer significantly improves protection against outside noise. With good sealing to prevent moisture and warm air from entering, condensation is also reduced.
Specialists note a significant increase in demand for double-glazed windows with triple and double glazing. Today, there are quite a few companies involved in the production of such products. Some dealers make parts for additional glazing without observing technological standards.
When choosing glass for self-installation in a window frame, you need to pay attention to its thickness. The effectiveness of heat and sound insulation depends on it. These indicators are also affected by the distance between the glasses. Therefore, during installation, a distance of at least seventy-five millimeters should be maintained.
Sheet glass for windows is produced from two to six millimeters thick. For installation in residential premises, as a rule, sheets of two to three millimeters are used. Sheets with a thickness of five millimeters are mounted in aluminum profiles.
Experts recommend using a colorless canvas in living quarters. It is allowed to install glass of a pale green or bluish tint. But it must be remembered that the selected sheet must transmit at least eighty-five percent of the light.
Before installation, it is necessary to adjust the glass to the size of the frame. Immediately before installation, the surface of the canvas should be cleaned. Particular attention needs to be paidthe inside of the glass.
When attaching an additional frame, do not forget about the mounting clearance of twenty to forty millimeters. This will help prevent freezing of the window in the cold season. The gap must be filled with mounting foam.
In the days of our grandfathers there were no electric planers and cutters, but they built houses for centuries. Be smart, don't get lost, and you will succeed!
