Any handyman needs a place to perform plumbing work, and it is most convenient to do it on a mobile workbench on wheels. Such a locksmith's table has an undeniable advantage - if desired, it moves to any convenient place. A workbench on wheels equipped with drawers serves as a storage place for tools and hardware.
Design
An ordinary locksmith's workbench looks unpretentious. This is a table with a thick top. As functionality increases, the workspace is complemented by drawers, shelves, a power shield to place tools, and wheels to move the table around the workshop or garage. Unlike a stationary locksmith table, a mobile workbench is equipped with strong wheels mounted on a solid base.
The frame looks like a frame to which a metal or wooden table top is attached. Under the tabletop in the cabinet there are boxes for storing spare parts and hardware. The tool is attached to the power rack located on the back side of the frame andraised above the tabletop.
Material selection
Depending on the work performed, the metalwork table has certain features. A carpenter's workbench looks like a thick, long wooden tabletop placed on a wooden or light metal base. A carpentry workbench has a similar design, but at the same time it is 2-3 times shorter, and the tabletop is made of hardwood. Drawers and shelves are made of thick plywood or hardboard. A mobile workbench for working with metal is carried out on a durable metal frame, and individual elements can be wooden: shelves and drawers. In general, a garage worktable should not contain wood components, as there is a high risk of spontaneous combustion due to improper storage of oiled rags.
Sketch of the future design
When deciding to make a do-it-yourself mobile workbench on wheels for a garage or workshop, you need to carefully consider the design of the table. The simplest option is a 10 mm thick metal worktop welded to a frame in the form of a parallelepiped made of pipes or corners. Metal or plastic swivel wheels are attached to the base of the table with bolts, capable of withstanding the required load. For garage conditions, when heavy car parts will be stacked on the countertop, large-diameter rubber or plastic wheels with a metal hub are suitable.
The average dimensions of a mobile workbench are 1.2-2 meters in length of the table top, 1 meter in width and 80-90 cm in height. The last parameter is better to choose individually, based on the height of the master.
There are non-pedestal, one- and two-pedestal workbenches. The latter are more practical in operation, as they allow you to store more hardware products or spare parts, and there is room for work in the middle of the tabletop. Each cabinet contains drawers or simple shelves.
Depending on which hand the master works with, the vise on the tabletop is attached to the right or left side. A metal mobile workbench on wheels should be equipped with a top with rounded corners to avoid injury. For the convenience of working at the locksmith's table, you will need to install a battery-powered LED lighting lamp to avoid binding the workbench to a specific place in the workshop.
Assembling the locksmith's table
After sketching a sketch of the future design, proceed to the assembly. At this stage, you will need bolts, self-tapping screws for metal or wood, a screwdriver, an electric drill, a welding machine, a planer or a jigsaw. The list of required tools depends on the selected material of the workbench components. Metal corners, pipes, strips, sheets, boards, timber are selected as the material.
First, the frame of the mobile workbench is assembled so that a strong box is obtained. The resulting frame is divided into several parts, depending on the number of future pedestals, which are framed with corners or timber to increase the strength of the structure. If necessary underadditional longitudinal and transverse lintels are welded or screwed on the countertop, which increase the rigidity of the structure.
After completing the assembly of the frame, the parallelepiped is turned over, and swivel wheels are attached to the base with bolts. Then the frame is returned “to its feet” and the countertop is fixed. After that, drawers and shelves are mounted in the cabinets, a table lamp is hung and the work ends.
