Growing quails is a rather troublesome business. Young individuals differ from chicks of other similar species of poultry, such as chickens or guinea fowls, in their restlessness and excessive activity. Therefore, it can be quite problematic to provide them with constantly clean water. Consider how a quail drinker is made at home with your own hands. We use the available material, which is always available on the farm - a plastic bottle.
Quail drinker: basic requirements
It is especially important to keep the chicks clean during the first 2-3 weeks after hatching. It is undesirable to use open containers for drinking, because, actively moving, young animals pollute the water, which in a warm environment contributes to the reproduction of pathogenic and dangerous bacteria and microorganisms. The organization of feed supply on poultry farms provides for the use of automatic mode. When raising poultry at home, similar home-made drinking bowls for quails are often used. For their manufacture, the most affordable material is suitable - a plastic bottle. Below are two ways to quickly build simple fixtures.
The first way to make a quail drinker with your own hands from a plastic bottle
The main feature of this design is the double layout. Prepare two identical bottles with a capacity of 1.2-1.5 liters. Cut one of them in half crosswise with a sharp knife or scissors. In the lower part, make 1-2 holes in the shape of a square at a distance of 5-6 cm from the bottom. In the neck of the second bottle, make several thin holes on one side. Then insert it upside down into the first blank. This design must be strengthened at a certain distance from the floor with the help of wire, “wrapping” it with a made drinking bowl in two places and hanging it on the wall. The water level in the bottom bottom will automatically be kept at one level due to the consumption by the chicks when drinking and filling through small holes.
Second manufacturing method. Materials needed
This quail drinker is an analogue of factory designs. Before starting work, you need to purchase the main device - a special device for supplying water in the form of a nipple. If you plan to make a three-dimensional structure to organize the maintenance of a sufficiently large number of chicks, it is advisable to use a 5-liter plastic container. Prepare for installation on it a few nipples. So, you will need the following materials for work:
- plastic bottle or canister (volume from 1.2L to 5L);
- drill and drills(their properties depend on the thickness of the surface in which you will make a hole - a bottle or a canister);
- water dispenser;
- adhesive-sealant;
- rope or wire for hanging.
Production order
The device is very convenient to use, as this quail drinker is almost automatic. But when working, you need to pay special attention to fixing the nipples. There can be two options for making holes:
- turn a large bottle or canister upside down and make a few holes in it;
- drill one hole in the cork of a small bottle.
Having screwed the iron nipple along the thread, carefully process the joints so that there are no gaps. They may leak water. On the side opposite the holes, make a few holes through which you can thread a rope or wire for hanging.
Only by providing young animals with high-quality feed and fresh water, you can grow a he althy and strong bird. And this is a guarantee of high egg production of quails and the quality of their meat.
