The first impression of the apartment depends on how the ceiling looks. If the flaws on the wall or on the floor are not immediately evident, then you can’t hide the top with anything - all the bumps and errors can spoil the overall picture. Ceiling painting, the quality of workmanship and the materials used for its implementation are important components that affect the entire renovation process. Painting the ceiling is one of the first steps in decorating any room.
Materials
First you need to choose the material that you will paint. If the ceiling in the bedroom is being repaired, then it is better to use acrylic paint with latex. It perfectly copes with small cracks 1 mm wide, gives a feeling of fullness of color and visually expands the space. The paint is suitable for rooms with low humidity. Painting ceilings in the kitchen and bathroom, made with silicate paint, withstand temperature fluctuations and dripping. The paint will not require additional antiseptics, which modern manufacturers have prudently included in the composition. Additives provide the coating with additional protection against bacteria and microorganisms. Silicone paint is suitable for any room, as it combines the qualities of acrylic and silicate. It can cover cracks of 2 mm, is not afraid of moisture. If the ceiling is covered with drywall, the most acceptable option is to paint the ceiling with a water-based or water-dispersion mixture. The first allows you to use the addition of any color, the second is moisture resistant and washable.
Tools
Getting a smooth layer of material overlay requires good tools. You need to purchase two rollers: a small one with a long pile and a large one with a medium one. To paint the corners, you need a brush, a paint tray, a reliable chair or table, a stepladder. Painting ceilings starts from the window towards the interior of the room. Do not put pressure on the roller to avoid smudges and bald patches, apply paint in parallel stripes, overlapping. Do not hold the roller directly over your head - the angle of inclination should be 45 degrees. For extra eye, hair and face protection, use goggles and a hat.
Preparing for painting
Regardless of what kind of coating you have on the ceiling, before starting work it must be prepared: remove old plaster, paint, cleanirregularities, cover up cracks and cracks - even out all the flaws, so that the result is a mirror surface. The ceiling must be wiped from the dust that remains after the previous work. After that, the ceiling is primed before painting. What is it for? The primer will create a film that will adhere to the coating material, the paint will be economically and evenly distributed over the surface, and in the future it will not lag behind and crack.
Ceiling painting and color selection
The paint is applied in several layers, at least two or three. Each time the previous coating must dry completely. When choosing a color, we recommend using neutral, pastel colors. They will not cut the eyes and at the same time visually increase the space. If you are using multiple shades, you will need to purchase additional masking tape.
