Quite often parquet is used in repairs today. What it is - you can learn about it in detail from the article. This type of flooring is a material that can be panel, piece or type-setting. The features and varieties will be discussed below. However, this information is not so important when there is a need to correctly lay the plates, calculating the distance from wall to wall.

Main types of parquet

On sale you can find several varieties of parquet, among them:

  • natural;
  • piece;
  • solid board.

Piece parquet is the most common today. It is represented by a set of strips with grooves and ridges for fixing. The material is made from solid wood, and the planks can also consist of valuable hardwoods and conifers. The thickness of the material varies between 15-22 mm, while the length reaches 500 mm. In terms of width, Oak parquet, for example, can be limited to 75mm.

Before many other kinds of eco-friendly materialpiece has many advantages, namely:

  • long service life;
  • possibility of installation with the formation of different patterns, including artistic masonry;
  • repairable.

So, you also decided to choose parquet. What is its styling and what types are, you must certainly know. For example, a massive board also belongs to the parquet and is its variety. It differs from the aforementioned material in size and in that it does not allow mounting with many patterns. A solid board is more expensive and requires more solid wood. Structurally, in such a board, a comb, a groove, a wear layer and a front side are distinguished. The comb is used to connect with adjacent boards, and the groove is a recess on the end and side edges, which includes a comb for fixing with adjacent elements.

The top layer is called the wear layer, and its service life determines the life of the parquet flooring. The thicker the wear layer, the more resurfacing can be done. If you are interested in parquet, what is a wear layer, you should know first of all.

Well, the main distinguishing feature of a solid board are the dimensions. Planks have a length of 500 mm, the average thickness is 32 mm, for this indicator the maximum deviation in both directions is 1 mm.

Production technology

Oak parquet can become the most reliable, natural and beautiful floor covering if the production rules are followed. Durability will depend on the quality of the materials used as well as the manufacturing process. This flooring is made according to the same technological scheme, but each manufacturer uses its own recipes.

First, the wooden blank is sawn on the machine into separate boards, which allows to obtain a certain thickness and width. Next, the boards are sawn across, this allows you to form blanks of a certain length. At the same time, defective areas are discarded. Floor parquet is made by milling from 4 sides, which allows you to get the desired geometric shape and form the base surfaces. To obtain a groove and a crest, the boards are also milled. After that, the elements are processed until a clean front surface is obtained.

On the milling machine, grooves and ridges are cut at the ends of the parquet plank, and after the boards are packed. If we are talking about a multilayer board, the technology becomes more complicated. At the same time, different types of wood are glued together. As a rule, low-value rocks are used to create a substrate, while valuable rocks are used to form the front layer. The durability, aesthetic appearance and reliability of the finishing material will depend on the correct selection of wood, production features and the state of the type of varnish and glue.

Laying parquet: preparation

If you decide to use parquet when repairing the floor, what is its neat and proper installation, you should definitely find out. However, for a successful outcome of the work, it is important not only this, but also the awareness of the master on many other issues. At the first stage, it is necessary to level the rough surface. Its quality will directly affect the life of the flooring.

If the base is defective, the parquet may crack, the ridges will break, and the floor will creak. This will lead to the need for additional grinding, which will thin the working material. In order to avoid such consequences, light parquet must be laid on a properly leveled surface. To do this, you can use the technique in which the floor is poured with a screed. Level differences within 2 cm can be removed by grinding the concrete floor. Subsequently, a cement-sand screed or a polymer leveling mortar can be poured onto such a surface.

Cement-sand screed must be left for 4 weeks before laying parquet. If you plan to glue the boards to a primed screed, then it must be poured using a cement mixture of the M-150 brand. You can apply the brand M-300. These compositions will be characterized by high compressive strength, and the adhesive must be elastic. If you plan to lay moisture-resistant plywood on top, then you do not need to wait for complete curing. 28 days will be enough.

Parquet, the price of which may vary depending on the quality of the wood and the manufacturer, can be laid, for example, with herringbone or mosaic modules. If you decide to resort to corner laying, you need to start work from the center row. In the center of the room from wall to wall, the master should pull the cord along which you will navigate. Next, two parquet planks are used, which are interconnected by a herringbone. Glue should be applied to the spike and groove, as well as the ends. The composition needs to process the plywood base, while starting from the far wall. Use of a notched trowel is recommended.

Planks are pressed against the surface so that excess glue comes out. If additional mechanical fastening in the form of self-tapping screws or nails is used, they must be screwed into the groove at an angle of 45°. After the surface has been smeared to the width of the bar, you can attach it by inserting it into the end and longitudinal grooves of the previous element. You can seal the connection of the strips with a rubber mallet.

Piece parquet can be laid using the following technology. First, charges are mounted like a beacon Christmas tree, on the right and left. After that comes a row to the left of the Christmas tree, then to the right. According to this principle, it is necessary to act, gradually expanding the laying area. Near the walls, the place should be filled with cut strips, installing wedges to fill the gap of 3 mm.

If you need to restore heavily trampled, neglected and worn parquet,the surface of which has wavy depressions and cracks, you can do without replacing the coating, but in this case it is better to entrust the restoration to professionals. Restoration of the parquet may also be necessary if it is swollen after flooding. Experts advise re-laying such a floor, and after drying, even old parquets can be used, however, the whole complex of sanding and varnishing works will be required.

If the boards have darkened and the wood is loose, a complete replacement of the parquet will be required. In this case, it is necessary to dry the room and prepare the base surface. Sometimes ordinary cosmetic putty can also save. To do this, you should purchase a restoration paste of the appropriate shade. However, you can prepare the mixture yourself if you have several old parquet in stock. To do this, they are sawn, and the chips are added to the parquet varnish until the consistency of sour cream is obtained. You can add sawdust filler to the varnish in a ratio of 4 to 1.

Restoration of parquet can be carried out using manual scraping technology, for this you should purchase a tool of the same name. You can make a cycle yourself, using a planer and a piece of iron for this. In the end, you should get something like a machine or hand scraper.

Cost

The production of parquet from different companies may vary. Sometimes this affects the cost. And the average price of modern parquet is 800 rubles. per square meter. Such material can be made from oak wood. The slats in this case will have a size of 8 x 22, 8 x160 mm. Parquet, the price of which you already know, after some time after operation may require repair. The most common work is scraping, for 1 square meter of which you will have to pay 350 rubles. If the work will be carried out according to the Euro tariff, then for 1 square meter the price will be 650 rubles.

Conclusion

More recently, parquet was called natural wood flooring, but the development of technology and the rise in price of natural materials have influenced the fact that flooring and parquet production are carried out somewhat differently than before.
