Roof is the final architectural link. It, in fact, determines the complete external picture of the house. The roof of a private house affects not only the appearance of the entire architectural structure, but also the comfort inside the house. After all, it protects people from adverse atmospheric phenomena.

Let's consider such roof projects of private houses as attic and attic. The type of roof depends on the angle of inclination, as a result of which it can be flat and pitched.

Based on the design, roofs are attic, which are divided into cold and insulated, and non-attic, combined with the main room. They are non-ventilated, ventilated and partially ventilated.

Roof structures are distinguished by their shape:

  • Shed roof - rafters rely only on external, having different heights, load-bearing walls. It is rarely used for residential buildings, more often it completes the architecture of homestead buildings (see photo above).

  • Multi-gable roof, otherwise valley, is the most complex in design, covering a private house. Such roofs consist of many valleys, internal corners at the junction of slopes, and external ribs, which greatly complicate roofing work.

  • A mansard roof is a gable roof, but its difference from a simple gable roof is an increase in the attic space due to a broken structure.

  • Flat - not popular. They need to be cleaned regularly. These roofs trap debris and snow, leading to rapid leakage.

  • Spike-shaped, or domed, roofs - used extremely rarely on circular buildings.

What to choose? Attic floor or attic roof?

  • When constructing the attic floor, the role of the outer walls of the room is performed by the roof of a private house itself. This design gives originality to the appearance and allows you to increase the amount of internal living space. It is more complex in design, more labor-intensive due to insulation and finishing on the inside and, accordingly, more expensive in cost. The attic roof of a private house is easy to build.
  • The most commonly used gable design. The slope of such a roof depends on the roofing material. The roof should not deform under the weight of snow, and water should not seep inside.

Technical aspects should also be taken into account: the heavier the roof material, the stronger the rafter system should be, the more reliable the walls and foundation. When choosing a roof, special attention should be paid to the durability and sound insulation of the material, as well as the possibility of repair without all its replacement.
