Before finishing the room with this material, you should familiarize yourself with its advantages:

  1. Excellent thermal insulation properties. The material, of course, is different from brick. But its ability to thermal insulation allows you to create comfort in the room. And if foam or mineral wool is also used, then it will be possible to save on heating.
  2. Flexible and light. Thanks to these properties, it is possible to implement original ideas. Rectangular and semicircular parts are created from drywall. It can be used for niches and recessed fixtures.
  3. Fire resistance. This characteristic will be indispensable in case of fire. lights upusually only the top cardboard part. In addition, there are fire-resistant drywall sheets.
  4. Water resistant. Because of this, the sheets do not absorb moisture. Therefore, they are suitable for use in kitchens and bathrooms without the risk of warping the finish.
  5. Hiding communications. The material allows you to remove wires and pipes from your eyes. Only inspection hatches will be required so that, if repairs are necessary, not to remove all panels.

Gypsum board figures for a corridor, kitchen or other room can decorate a room. The main thing is that they are appropriate in the interior.

Flaws

But drywall also has disadvantages:

  • Fragility. The main disadvantage of the material is considered to be insufficient strength. Sheets crack during transportation, installation, operation.
  • Poor sound insulation properties. Through such a partition all sounds will be heard. Mineral wool will solve the problem.

Gypsum board figures can be on walls, ceilings. This material is used for the manufacture of entire compositions. It is used to create shelves, arches, partitions.

Sizes

Before finishing the room, you need to know the size and price of the drywall sheet. Its standard parameters in length are 200-400 cm in increments of 5 cm. There are two widths - 60 and 120 cm.

Thickness usually choose 6.5 or 12.5mm. The ends of the sheets are made straight, rounded, smooth and evenly refined on one side. The dimensions and price of a drywall sheet may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Pricematerial "Volma" - 186-260 rubles., "Knauf" - 220-330, Abdullingips - 170-250. There are 2 ways to make plasterboard figurines:

  1. Dry.
  2. Wet.

Dry method

Considered the simplest, arched material is used for it. The thickness of the sheets is 6 mm, so they easily bend and take the required shape. When dry, it is possible to bend them 10 cm.

Before bending, you need to create the desired frame from a metal profile, on the side parts of which there are cuts. The plasterboard part is attached to the profile, screwed with self-tapping screws for plasterboard, and also bent according to the structure. The pitch of the screw is 25 cm.

Drywall should not be bent with great force, it may break. The work must be done carefully. If the curvature is more than 10 cm, then small V-shaped cuts should be made on the other side of the bend. The cuts are made in parallel.

Wet method

If there is a heavy load on the structure, then ordinary material should be used to create plasterboard figures. Only need a wet method using the following instructions:

  1. Making a template from plywood or profile.
  2. Warm water should be moistened with an element from the outside. To do this, use a roller or brush.
  3. Due to moisture, the material bends easily.
  4. When the part becomes pliable, you need to fix it on the template and leave to dry.

There is another wayallowing for bending. The sheet must be fixed on a support and oppression is placed on it. The load should not be placed too heavy. If the curvature is greater than 6 cm, then it is necessary to perforate the drywall fragment. To do this, it is pierced with a needle roller. Many holes are formed on the surface, due to which moisture flows faster to the middle. This method will allow you to create any form.

Mounting Methods

Gypsum plasterboard figures on the wall and ceiling are glued and framed. Both options have their own characteristics, advantages and disadvantages. Mounting on glue is considered the simplest. It is only necessary to cut out the necessary structure from drywall and attach it to the surface. For this, silicate glue or tile mortar is used. The material can be applied in multiple layers.

For curved ceilings and drywall constructions, a strong framework must be used if this mounting method is selected. The profile must have a cross section of 75-200 mm. For a curly wall, it is better to take 50-75 mm. To get it with a smooth bend, you need to create cuts on the side parts of the profile and bend to the required curvature.

If necessary, you can purchase an arched element that includes separate movable segments. Radius sections are connected by jumpers. First, you can make a frame with screwed fragments of plasterboard elements. Or create a template of the desired shape, and then make a curved part from the material. Installation of complex figures from drywall should be performedonly if you have experience in this work.

Sheathing

After preparing the frame, drywall can be fixed:

  1. Material should be cut.
  2. Then screwing is performed on self-tapping screws: first on the side fragments.
  3. The front of the figure must be sewn up.

After that, you can finish the structure. There are several options for assembling the frame and sheathing of plasterboard figures for the kitchen and other rooms. A frame is tied to the resulting fragment, and only then it is screwed to the wall and sheathed with plasterboard slabs. The interior of the room, where there are original figures, looks unusual. If you create a niche for a TV, shelves for storing things, decor, then the design will be ergonomic.

Finishing figures

Different materials are used for finishing. The following options are available:

  1. If you use contrasting wallpapers, you can make an accent in the interior.
  2. By making a figured wall in the form of an arch, it will turn out to divide the space into parts.
  3. The curly walls painted in different colors look original.
  4. Can be used for finishing gypsum decorative brick stone.

Ceilings

Drywall can be used to decorate the ceiling. The material can help in the implementation of various ideas. Multi-level ceilings look original, allowing you to install additional lighting - spotlights or LEDs. This will create the effect of a starry skyor floating ceiling.

Arches

There are complex and simple drywall shapes that can be used to create arches. This technique is used where there are no doors. For example, in small rooms, in which the space will be expanded without doors.

Arches will be a link between rooms, they serve as a zoning structure. They also eliminate defects in doorways, which are often found in apartments.

Shelves and niches

Rarely in which apartment there is a Soviet wall. But before this piece of furniture was everywhere. Instead, they began to use niches and shelves that can be easily created from a Knauf sheet.

The niche will easily fit a TV, photos, souvenirs or books. Behind them, in comparison with wooden furniture, special care is not needed. Plus, they look compact.

Decorative elements

So that the interior is not boring and strict, it is supplemented with decorative details. You can use mirrors, glass, ceramics, metal, plastic or acrylic as decoration.

Demanded decoration is LED lighting. It not only decorates the structure, but also provides an important function - lighting. Lighting creates a romantic atmosphere in the room.

Gypsum board pieces look great in kitchens, they make great niches for storing dishes. The material is used for the manufacture of shelves for the pantry - different in size and shape. ATin the office, the structure can serve as a bookcase, and in the bedroom, the head of the bed can be made of drywall.

Thus, the figurines can be made by yourself. But this applies to simple elements. If you want to perform complex drywall constructions, then it is better to turn to professionals. A competent approach in this matter will ensure a quality repair.
