Today, during construction or repair work, the main emphasis is on the quality of both the structures themselves and their interior or exterior finishes. Thanks to the use of a wide variety of building auxiliary materials, modern buildings and their decorative finishes can last for many years in perfect condition. Reinforcing tape is one such tool. It is widely used in finishing works.
Reinforcing tape is an indispensable tool
Reinforced tape is not used, of course, as a decorative material. Its application is aimed at achieving other goals - auxiliary. The main reasons and cases when
use this material, proceed from its purpose.
- Reinforcing tape prevents the formation of cracks that can occur if the technology or proportions were not observed when harvesting building compositions, if there are constant temperature changes, or the surface is subject to mechanical stress, etc.
- Very often the need forthe use of such a tape is due to the fact that the surface requires additional strengthening from physical influences.
As you know, cracks can appear globally, i.e. over the entire surface, and locally - at the junction of individual elements of walls and ceilings (for example, at the points of contact of window frames or doorways with walls). Global cracks usually occur at the moment when finishing materials lose their chemical and physical properties due to
various reasons. Local cracks mainly appear due to mechanical influences, such as opening and closing doors and windows, touching surfaces and furniture, etc.
Reinforcing tape is designed to eliminate not only cracks, but also to prevent the appearance of shedding of finishing materials, their swelling, peeling. Most often, this type of material is used to create strong joints between drywall sheets and various panels, corners formed by walls and ceilings, and for many other purposes. The use of tapes gives an additional guarantee of surface strength, which is associated with the physical properties of this material.
Reinforcing tape and its main characteristics
A feature that should be highlighted for such tapes is good moisture absorption (if it is paper or fabric) or, conversely, moisture resistance (if it is made of PVC).
There are two types of tapes - with and without adhesive backing. Plain paper reinforcing tape is mainlyused for fastening simple seams, while adhesive (because it is more convenient to use) is most often used for sealing drywall joints. However, this is far from its only purpose. If such a reinforcing tape consists of polyvinyl chloride (aka PVC) - a waterproof material, then it is used for sealing sewer pipes, gluing containers, for waterproofing, etc. It can even be used as electrical insulation as it has dielectric properties.
In a word, reinforcing tape is a great helper when performing various finishing and repair work.
