Connecting a toilet to a sewer with your own hands is not at all as complicated as it might seem at first glance. When performing it, you need to do only three things correctly - to stabilize the toilet itself, connect the outlet to the sewer riser and connect the water supply to the drain tank. Suspended plumbing fixtures are installed a little differently - on the frame. However, this work is also quite feasible without the involvement of specialists.
New plumbing: toilet installation
Installation of purchased plumbing is carried out in several stages:
- The old equipment is being dismantled - the tank and the "seat" itself.
- If necessary, change the mortgage board.
- A new toilet is being installed. This connects to the sewer system.
- The tank is mounted and connected to the water supply.
Preparatory work
Before proceeding with an operation such as installing and connecting a toilet bowl to a sewer, you should prepare yourselfbathroom. Beforehand, it is necessary to remove from it all furnishings that may interfere with the installation work. Also, in order to prevent water leakage and flooding of neighbors, common taps are blocked.
Dismantling the old tank
First of all, disconnect the drain container from the water pipe. Usually the tanks are connected to it with a flexible metal hose. If there is a valve on the outlet from the pipe to the drain tank, it should also be closed. Next, the nut is unscrewed alternately, fixing the hose to the water supply, and then the nut fastening to the tank pipe.
How to remove an old toilet
After the tank is turned off, proceed to dismantle the plumbing fixture. Previously, the outlet of the old toilet bowl is disconnected from the outlet pipe of the sewer riser. The method of dismantling depends on which method was used for fastening. This may be connecting the toilet to the sewer with a corrugation or a coupling. In any case, there should be no difficulties with their dismantling.
There are two holes on the sides of the base of the toilet, from which you need to unscrew the bolts. After the equipment is disconnected, it is set aside and the condition of the mortgage board is checked. If it is damaged or rotted, it should be replaced. To do this, the old board is removed and thrown away. The niche is thoroughly cleaned, expanded if necessary, filled with cement mixture and a new board is pressed into it, corresponding to the size of the "leg" and the base of the toilet.
In the event that the floor in the bathroom is tiled, both under the old and under the new plumbingappliances should be placed with a rag (so as not to scratch the coating).
Toilet installation: instructions
After the old equipment is dismantled, proceed to install the new one. Holes are drilled in the mortgage board - at a distance corresponding to the holes for fasteners in the base of the toilet.
The plumbing fixture is placed on it and fastened with long screws. The holes in the board should have a diameter slightly smaller than that of the rods. Screw heads can be covered with special plastic or steel decorative caps.
Basic rules for connecting to a sewer pipe
At the moment, only three types of toilet bowls are produced: with a horizontal outlet, oblique and vertical. The socket of the layer from the riser in ordinary city apartments most often comes out at an angle. The connection of the toilet to the sewer is made depending on the type of its output and the position of the drain pipe pipe. In this case, different elements are used as adapters - cuffs, pipes or corrugations.
Installation Rules for Angled and Horizontal Outlets
Since toilets with a horizontal or oblique outlet are used most often, let's consider their connection diagram in more detail. If the outlet of the bowl and the socket of the pipe are aligned, plastic pipes are used for connection. In case of small inconsistencies, eccentric cuffs are used. Minor misalignments are usually caused by the toilet being misaligned when attached to a board or tile. For serious deviationscorrugation is used.
Preliminarily, as already mentioned, the toilet is installed (with an oblique outlet or with a horizontal one) on a mortgage board. Next, proceed to the actual connection. The release itself is smeared with red lead and wrapped with a resin strand in such a way that its end 0.5-1 cm long remains outside. If you fill it inside, in the future it can become an additional cause of blockages. Next, a connecting element is put on top - a corrugation or a coupling. Their opposite end is smeared with sealant and inserted into the socket of the sewer pipe.
Checking performance
Further, regardless of whether the toilet was connected to the sewer with a corrugation, cuff or pipe, the drain is checked for leaks. It is very easy to do this. You need to pour water into a bucket (since the cold tap is turned off, you can also hot it, but it’s better to do it in advance) and carefully pour it into the toilet, while at the same time observing that there are no leaks at the junction of the exit and the socket. If everything is done correctly, this problem is unlikely to occur.
You can really start using the toilet no earlier than 4 days later. It is this period that the sealant needs for the final hardening.
Connecting the tank to the water supply
So, we figured out how to connect the toilet to the sewer. After this procedure is completed, proceed to install the drain tank. It is fastened according to the instructions attached by the manufacturer to the plumbing fixture itself. On the nextthe stage will need to connect the tank to the water supply. In this case, everything is simple. For connection, you can use an old hose, screwing it to the drain tank and the outlet of the cold water pipe.
Tighten the nuts tightly, but try not to strip the threads. For both dismantling and installation, a simple adjustable wrench is usually used. After the hose is screwed on, open the water and check the connection points for leaks. If there are any, it is most likely an old hose. It will just need to be replaced, since it is inexpensive.
Installation of a toilet bowl without a mortgage board
Sometimes toilets are installed not on the board, but directly on the tile. In this case, holes for fasteners are simply drilled in it. Next, a linoleum gasket is laid on top, cut out according to the cross-sectional shape of the base of the toilet bowl. The latter should be glued to the floor on the sealant. However, after the device is installed in this way, you need to sit on it and swing. If it is unstable, the tile under it will still have to be removed and a wooden, even base installed. Connecting the toilet to the sewer in this case is done in the usual way.
Hanging sanitary ware
Recently, many apartment owners prefer to install models in bathrooms that are attached not to the floor, but to the wall. These toilets look more stylish and modern than ordinary ones. In addition, this solution makes it easier to clean the toilet. In this case, the hostessno need to wash the toilet leg and its base. Simply wipe the floor underneath.
Of course, connecting the toilet to the riser in the usual way in this case will not work. All sewer pipes will be clearly visible, which is extremely unaesthetic. Therefore, hanging toilets are hung on a special steel frame. Next, they perform an eyeliner and sheathe the frame with plasterboard sheets, thus arranging a false wall that closes all communications.
Assembly Diagram
Well, now let's take a closer look at how to connect the toilet to the sewer. Frames for such plumbing fixtures are sold separately. Their design includes special brackets and screws, with which you can adjust the position of the frame on the wall and on the floor. In another way, the frame is also called "installation".
So, the toilet installation scheme in this case is as follows:
- The drain tank is fixed on the frame.
- Marking under the frame. Usually it is attached in two places to the wall and in two places to the floor.
- The tank is connected to the water supply.
- Next, the frame is fixed with a check of its horizontal and vertical level.
- A decorative box of plasterboard sheets is mounted.
- The toilet itself is installed.
- Drain assembly in progress.
Basic frame installation rules
Before attaching the frame, check that you have hung the tank correctly. Ultimately, the drain button should be located at a heightapproximately 98.5-100 cm above floor level. The toilet itself, which will be installed later, is at a height of 40-42 cm. The sewer pipe is about 20 cm.
Fixation to the wall is made in such a way that a small gap remains between it and the drain tank (about 1.5 cm).
Plumbing connection
This procedure is no different from installing conventional toilets. The only thing is that flexible metal hoses are not recommended in this case. The problem is that they fail quite often. If we are talking about a conventional tank, replacing it will not be difficult. However, it will be very problematic to remove the hose from under the false wall behind the hanging toilet. Therefore, in this case, it is better to use an eyeliner from a piece of plastic pipe. The design of the cistern of wall-hung toilets is usually such that it can be connected, if desired, both from above and from the side.
Before plasterboarding the frame, you should also fit the sewer pipes (pipe) to the outlet of the toilet - using the same pipe or, in extreme cases, a coupling.
Gypsum board sheathing
Before installing the decorative box, pins are screwed to the frame, on which the toilet itself will later need to be attached. For the manufacture of the base of the false wall, moisture-resistant drywall with a thickness of at least 1 cm should be used. When cutting it, it is necessary to provide holes for the drain button, corrugation and pipes. The top of the box is usually finished with ceramic tiles.
Toilet installation
You can install the plumbing fixture itself no earlier than two weeks after the tile is laid. The outlet of the toilet bowl is fastened to the socket of the sewer pipe with a branch pipe. The “seat” itself is pulled together with nuts on pins. The joint between it and the false wall tile is coated with silicone sealant.
At the final stage, you should drain the water to check the connection between the toilet and the sewer for leaks. On this, the work on the installation of plumbing can be considered completed.
As you can see, the toilet installation procedure is quite simple. Starting the assembly, you will see for yourself. The main thing is to carefully seal all joints and prevent leakage through the pipe or hose of the drain tank. Of course, the toilet itself, in the event that it is floor-standing, should stand level, without swaying.
