When carrying out repair and construction activities, it is necessary to strictly follow a certain sequence of work.
So, the installation of a floor plinth is the final stage of finishing the room. They start it at the moment when the walls and floor are completely ready. However, when working with wooden material, some craftsmen prefer to mount the plinth after the walls are putty, but before painting and wallpapering. This is done so that you can cover up the hole between the plank and the wall, which is not required when using a material such as a plastic floor plinth. Installation of this type is carried out using special fasteners and requires special attention.
Mounting Features
Before proceeding with the installation of skirting boards, it is necessary to carefully prepare the walls and floor. The appearance of the room depends on how even they are. It is worth noting that a plastic baseboard can provide the greatest fit to the wall, even with large irregularities, but at the same time it will not have a very attractive appearance. A wood product can hide small irregularities only when appliedputties, which also affects the interior not in the best way.
By the way, installing a floor skirting board, the price of which is above average, can cost as much as the product itself. That is why many customers prefer to first agree on a price, and only then purchase building materials.
Installation of wooden floor plinth
This type of material is installed using nails or self-tapping screws. First, small holes are drilled in the wall or floor, into which wood chips or impact dowel inserts are inserted. After that, markings are made on the plinth canvas, through which it is fixed through with screws. At the same time, the caps are sunk into the material, after which the resulting grooves are puttied.
Installation of floor plastic plinth
There are two fixing methods for this type of material. The first of them fully corresponds to the installation of wooden skirting boards. However, instead of putty, special plugs are used to seal the grooves. They are made of the same color material and are almost invisible. The second method assumes that the floor plinth will be installed using special fasteners, which are first mounted to the wall using impact dowels. This type of plinth requires perfect evenness of walls and ceilings, otherwise there will be a very large overrun of fasteners.
Plastic or wood?
There are a large number of different types andtypes of skirting boards, but they all boil down to a division into two groups: plastic and wooden. Wooden skirting boards have a specific shape, which they received during milling. In addition, they must be varnished or painted. And the cost of the tree is rather big. Plastic skirting boards are distinguished by a wide range of colors that you can pick up in the store. Thus, the issue of additional costs for paintwork materials is not worth it. It should also be noted that wooden skirting boards require special cutting at the junction at the corners, and plastic products have special corner connectors and end caps. What type of building material to choose is up to you.
