Installing a heating radiator with your own hands has its own characteristics. It all depends on what material the pipes are made of and what type of battery is selected. We will consider the installation process directly, when the components have already been selected, and the number of sections is calculated for the required system power.
Scheme of installation of heating radiators
One-pipe heating system consists of one central line, parts of which are connected in series. The disadvantage of this connection is the impossibility of regulating the power of radiators without additional components (thermostats). In two-story houses, the first floor in such a system is heated worse than the second. Two-pipe in this regard is more effective. Radiators in it are connected in several ways:
- Side one-way connection. The coolant supply is connected to the upper branch pipe, and the return pipe to the lower one. If the lines are reversed:top - down, and bottom - up, heat transfer will decrease by about 7%.
- Diagonal connection. The coolant supply is connected to the upper branch pipe on one side, and the lower (return) - to the lower one on the opposite side. This connection allows you to install radiators with a large number of sections.
- Lower connection. The coolant is supplied from one side to the lower branch pipe, and the return is to the lower one on the other. Such a connection system has the least low heat transfer, since the upper part of the radiator does not warm up completely. This connection scheme is used in highways laid under the floor.
Installing a heating radiator with your own hands
Before starting installation or replacing the battery, drain the water from the heating main and close the shut-off valves. It is recommended to install radiators under the windowsill. To improve heat transfer, the wall on which the battery will be installed can be covered with a reflective material, such as foil, or coated with a special compound with similar properties. Such a do-it-yourself installation of a heating radiator eliminates fogging of windows and creates additional protection from the cold.
One bracket is used for each meter of heated surface. Next, mark the places of their attachment. The radiator should fit snugly on all installed supports. Next, the batteries are connected to the line according to one of the schemes, connecting them with threaded spurs. ATin single-pipe systems, do-it-yourself installation of a heating radiator is carried out using a bypass - a special jumper with a smaller diameter, which is installed between the battery and the return. The joints of the components must be sealed with tow or a special sealing tape. Welding can be used to connect the pipeline to the radiator (at the pipe joints).
Installing batteries
Proper installation of heating radiators includes following the recommended installation distances:
- from the radiator to the floor should be 6-12 cm;
- the gap between the radiator and the wall is about 2-5cm;
- observance of the location strictly vertically and horizontally;
- distance to the windowsill - 10 cm.
