Propagating roses with green cuttings and summer grassy cuttings are two completely different ways. Let's try to understand what are the differences between them, and also list the advantages of each. Growing roses from cuttings at home is available even to a beginner grower. Don't be shy and, armed with everything you need, start breeding your favorite flowers.
Two ways - comparison
Beginners may be advised to try propagating polyanthus, floribunda and climbing roses. Also some hybrid teas. All of these varieties do not need a stock and budding. This means that the task (propagation of roses with a green cutting) is simplified. Why is the second method more common? The herbaceous summer stalk is a shoot that begins to move from a grassy state to a lignified one. And the softer the stem, the easier it will take root in a new place. Timecutting cuttings directly depends on the variety (the stages of shoot formation in different varieties of roses are different) and the climatic conditions in which the plant is located. In some cases, it is possible to root flowers from a presented bouquet. The more tender the wood of the shoot, the more likely the propagation of roses by a green cutting.
First way
Summer grassy cuttings are best prepared in early July. Then the bushes obtained from them will have better time to prepare for the winter and will more successfully endure the cold. Choose the desired shoot for cuttings at the moment when the bud has formed and begins to color. The percentage of rooting will decrease if you take a stem with a faded or freshly blossomed rose. Cut out the middle part of the shoot - you need five to eight centimeters with a couple of he althy buds. Cut the ends of the leaves with secateurs - this will reduce the evaporation of moisture from the cuttings. Make the top cut straight and the bottom cut oblique. They need to be done with the sharpest possible knife, having previously treated the blade with an antiseptic. Immediately place the cutting in water with heteroauxin - the use of this drug will increase the likelihood of root formation. Change the water every two days, and after two or three weeks, a root germ will appear at the end of the shoot. You can immediately plant a rose in the ground, or you can wait for the appearance of real roots. After moving the seedling into the soil, cover with a jar or film, continue to spray daily with settled water.
Propagation of roses with green cuttings
The material will need to be cut in the fall. Propagation of roses with a green cutting allows you to do this before the first frost. The shoot should have five to eight eyes and be no more than five millimeters thick. It must be cut from the middle part of the stem. The cut at the lower end must be made under the kidney. Plant the cuttings in the ground - by spring they will take root. How to prepare the soil? It is better to form special beds - one for each cutting. The soil, even loose and nutritious, must be fertilized with a mixture of turf, peat, sand and humus. Wood ash works well too. From above, the hole should be sprinkled with coarse-grained river sand. Before the onset of cold weather, the stalk must be covered with polyethylene or a special reed mat. As the roots form, the film is lifted. When frosts come, you need to lower it again, and cover it with a reed mat from above.
