In room culture, such a flower as oscularia appeared recently. The name comes from the Latin word "osculum", which can literally be translated as "little mouth". The plant is a member of the Aizaceae family, and its genus includes about six species of herbaceous perennials. It is known that the oscularia is deltoid, grows in the form of a semi-shrub, the leaves of which are quite fleshy, as, indeed, in all succulent relatives. Let's take a closer look at what a flower like oscularia is, what care is needed for it.

Specification of the oscula

South America is considered the birthplace of the deltoid ocular. No wonder its leaves and shoots are covered with a blue or gray bloom. It is he who helps the plant cope with the hot midday sun. This flower is a typical succulent, so it is important to know the basic rules for growing it.

Southern Beauty Care

Flower growers advise oscularia to be taken out to the balcony in summer. It easily tolerates heat, the main thing is to reliably protect it from rain. This flower will be a wonderful decoration for your balcony or summer veranda. Saturated with summer rays, the plant will overwinter better. For such a beauty as oscular, care should be specific and based mainly on a large amount of light. In a dark place, the plant will lose its unique plaque on the leaves, will lose flowering. As already mentioned, the flower is not afraid of heat. However, at a low temperature, about 10 C, the leaves gradually turn yellow, then turn brown. And in the end, the plant slowly but surely dies.

How much water do you need?

Water this plant should be moderate. Water for irrigation should be soft, it is desirable to defend it for about a day. It is also recommended to use filtered water. The plant is watered after the top clod of earth has completely dried. Starting in autumn, the amount of water is reduced. In winter, watering should be adjusted so that the root ball does not dry out. Strong waterlogging of the soil is fraught with rapid decay of the root system, which will lead to the death of the flower. It is imperative to remember these rules for a plant such as oscularia. Care that includes proper watering will promote excellent flowering.

Preparing the soil

It is known that oscularia develops well in light soil, which passes moisture well. It is desirable that the soil consists of leafy soil, greenhouse soil mixed with sand is also suitable. Be sure to have a thick drainage layer. As a rule, plant transplantation is carried out rarely, about once every three years. Flat wide pots are the perfect place for a plant like an ocular.

The photo just shows the mostappropriate utensils. If it is necessary to transplant a flower, for example, the pot has become small and the roots crawl out, then it is better to do this in spring or summer. When transplanting, you need to put the flower in order by removing old dried branches. As for fertilizer, it should be used no more than once a month and only during the period of plant growth.

Reproduction of oscularia

This plant can be propagated in several ways: cuttings, air layers and seeds. The latter method is used extremely rarely (as less effective). Cuttings are cut from the top of the plant, which should have several internodes. Then the cuttings are kept for several days so that they are completely dried. After that, they need to be placed in sand, covered with wet peat on top. In this state, the plant remains for several days. The rooted cuttings are then ready for planting in flat pots. This is the basic rules for caring for a flower such as oscularia. Wrongly organized care can cause damage to spider mites or various worms.
