Sandpaper is also called sandpaper. This abrasive material of various grain sizes is on a fabric or paper base, on which a layer of a special abrasive powder is applied. Sandpaper is used both in "manual" mode and in machine mode, for processing (cleaning) various surfaces, which are subsequently primed, sanded, painted, varnished, etc. Using sandpaper, you can also remove old paint, rust. Most often, such sanding sheets are produced in rolls, but there are also more modern options, for example, an emery sponge. For cleaning large enough areas, it is good to have a special cork bar available, to which the emery is attached. If you need to clean metal, then you can not do without a drill, which will serve as a drive for a rotating disc grinding wheel and abrasive brushes
k.
If you need sandpaper for one purpose or another, its classification will help you choose the one that youfit best. So, emery is classified according to the type of base. Paper-based skins can be both regular and waterproof. In addition, this material can withstand considerable mechanical stress. Its price is low, but it is not very wear-resistant and wears out quickly. Sandpaper based on fabric (polyester or cotton) is more durable, elastic and resistant to moisture. There are also sanding sheets on a combined basis, obtained by gluing fabric and paper. Particularly hard materials are processed on special emery machines, abrasive discs based on fiber.
However, knowing the classification is not enough, it must also be acquired taking into account
grit. It is she who is the most important characteristic of this material. The coarser the sandpaper, the less its grain size. The coarsest sandpaper ratings range from 12 to 16. With its help, they usually remove old paint, varnish from surfaces, and clean off drying oil.
Followed by less coarse sandpaper, the grit index of which ranges from 24 to 40. It can also be used to clean off paint. But the sandpaper with an abrasiveness of 60-80 is used after the surface has been cleaned. Such sandpaper carry out rough grinding. To smooth and level the surface, sandpaper with a grit of 80-150 is used. It also removes imperfections and irregularities remaining after rough grinding.
Sanding sheets for finer work have a grain size of 150up to 320. They treat the surface at the final stage, immediately before the primer and after it, before painting. After grinding with such fine-grained emery, the wooden surface becomes perfectly smooth. Perhaps it does not even need to be painted, but simply varnished.
However, there is also a super-thin emery. Its index ranges from 360 to 4000. This is zero-grade sandpaper, the most “gentle”, and is most often used to sand an already painted surface. Using such a skin, you can eliminate unnecessary glossy sheen of paint, smooth out the smallest scratches, and remove accidentally planted spots.
