Just a few decades ago, storing cannes in winter was a big mystery for most gardeners in Russia. This is due to the fact that it was considered a rather exotic plant, which could only be seen in rare botanical gardens. However, today domestic flower growers have learned how to successfully care for this flower, and it began to appear in private flower beds and household plots.
Cannes storage for the winter: methods and instructions
The first way to save this heat-loving plant is a specific intervention in its life. For this, all flower stalks are specially cut out. It should be remembered that the leaves must be left completely untouched. Plants must be carefully removed from the soil along with an earthen clod and planted in capacious pots filled with a special garden mixture that can be bought at any agricultural store. After that, you need to transfer them toa permanent place where cannas will be stored in winter. Watering the flower at this time is necessary once every ten to twelve days. In the spring, to stimulate the appearance of new peduncles, it is necessary to feed with a special mixture. It should consist of equal parts of halls and humus. Top dressing should be done every few weeks until the plant is planted in the ground. In early May, the canna is taken outside to allow the plant to get used to the environmental conditions and harden it. However, it should be remembered that the flower must be covered at night, otherwise it will simply freeze.
The second way in which cannas are stored in winter is to create an artificial state of rest for them. To do this, they dig it up in the fall and cut off all the flower stalks and leaves. After that, together with a clod of earth, the plant is placed in a large pot and brought into a cool room. The surface of the soil must be moistened several times a month, and at the beginning of winter, move the flower closer to the light source. Cannes (flowers whose storage in winter is based on knowledge of the internal processes of the plant) can be grown by experienced gardeners in almost any conditions. Spring care for them should be carried out according to the method described in the first method.
In the third method, the plant is dug up and all its leaves are cut. The rhizome must be thoroughly but gently washed and dried in a dark, dry place. After this, the plants must be placed in clean, dry boxes andsprinkle with sawdust. Then they should be placed in a dark, cool place and periodically moisten the roots of the plant. This is how cannas are stored in winter. In the tenth of February, you need to get the rhizomes and carefully examine them, removing all rotten or damaged parts with a clean, sharp knife. If the need arises, they can be divided into smaller parts. All sections are strongly recommended to sprinkle with charcoal or ash and dry. When planting delenok in pots, the following soil should be prepared: take one part of sand and humus for two parts of fertile land. This soil should be sprinkled with rhizomes about two centimeters and poured with warm water. After about seven days, the buds will wake up and the eland will begin to develop.
