In the article you will learn how to make a double bed frame with your own hands. The bed is the center of any bedroom. It is worth noting that making it yourself at the same time is simple and difficult. This process, from a technological point of view, is quite simple, there are no difficulties. And you can make a bed yourself without having a large set of carpentry tools on hand.
But on the other hand, it is necessary to carefully calculate all the loads that will affect the bed frame. In our article, we will give the basic concepts of double beds, tell you about its main parts and their purpose in the design.
Materials for making
Beds are best made out of wood. It will be cheaper than chipboard, and working with it is no less problematic. That's just a bed made of natural wood will serve you for several decades, while chipboard will last a maximum of ten years. Concerningfurniture array, it is much more expensive than wood-shaving materials. But it is allowed to use timber without significant defects.
And it is imperative to purchase material in closed heated warehouses. Those lumber that is stored outdoors or under sheds are suitable for use in pieces of furniture only after a long drying time has been made. You also need to pay attention to the fact that there will be too much waste and warping of the material.
It is still possible to make a bed for children, a small bedside table, a chest of drawers from such material, but such a forest is not suitable for making a double bed, which is very heavily loaded. You can make a simple bed from chipboard without lamination. The cost will be quite low, it will last a couple of years, but after that you will have to think about buying or making a new bed.
Connecting with nails
Today, nailing is rarely used. This is the "grandfather" method, it is much easier to use confirmations. But do not discount nails. First, it is a very cheap type of fastener. Secondly, it is not required to perform preparatory work, for example, to drill holes. Thirdly, you do not need to use a special tool, which, among other things, gives a lot of waste. Fourth, an experienced carpenter can drive 100mm nails without people in the next room hearing them.
On sale you can find grooved nails that will hold the tree much better than confirmations. Moreover, they self-tighten as the wood dries. In nodes in which the load cannot pull out the nail, the connection has maximum reliability. If the load is acting along the nail, such connections are still absolutely reliable. It is worth noting that there are enough such knots in the design of the bed.
What is tsargi
As a rule, drawers are made from boards or chipboard. Plywood is not suitable for this purpose, as it has a strong flexibility. And if a plywood sheet has a large length, then under the influence of dynamic loads it begins to delaminate. Drawers should be at least 3 cm thick. As for the width, for beds measuring 220x160 mm, it should be at least 200 mm.
In high quality beds, the sides are fastened with dowels. Sometimes, if aesthetics allow it, open connections are used. For example, you can use a half-tree mortise or through spikes. The use of keyed connections in this case is not recommended, as they will not be able to exclude the displacement of the side along the key.
Simple beds are characterized by the fact that the sides are assembled using metal fasteners. As a rule, hardware and corners are used. The support bars at the corners do not converge. Under the lounger on the slats, spacers are attached to them, which separate the nests of the slats.
Bed legs
The load on the legs is veryhigh. Please note that not all beds are stationary, sometimes they are moved. It is also worth noting that it is the legs that extinguish the remnants of all the dynamics that affect the bed. If opposite loads interact, resonance occurs.
And this is the reason for the appearance of squeaks that cannot be removed in any way. In order to get rid of resonance, it is necessary that the legs have not only high strength, but also a sufficiently low degree of mechanical quality factor. It is for this reason that boards or chipboards with an L-shaped section cannot be used. It is recommended to make them exclusively from beams, and coniferous.
In order to make strong legs that can dampen any vibrations, you must use a beam with a section of at least 50x50 mm. If desired, the cross section can be doubled. But you can make a double bed with a metal frame. You weld the skeleton, which after that you simply sheathe with wood. The legs of this design will be able to withstand heavy loads.
Using particle board
It is worth noting that chipboard is very often used in the manufacture of cheap beds. But there is always natural wood in the design. The fact is that chipboard, despite its high strength, does not tolerate concentrated loads. On the edges, ends, edges, it has a minimum strength.
Small parts of the bed very often delaminate already at the manufacturing stage. Chipboard withstands alternating loads are much worse than plywood. It is for these reasons that it is necessary to make the support belt, spar, legs, from wood. It should be noted that in the design it is best to use a bar with a section of 40x40 mm. Of course, a double bed with an iron frame will be much stronger.
The nuances of making a bed from chipboard
And yet you can find double bed frames made of chipboard. Such structures are assembled on a support cross. There are no small elements in them, due to the cross with overlays, it turns out to dampen the dynamics that comes from the sunbed and flooring. In structures, slabs must be more than 30 mm thick. They must be finished with edging for countertops. In case the bed is installed on a flat floor, polypropylene edges can be used.
It does not have to put plastic legs. It is allowed to install boxes under the bed. There is a drawback to such a bed. If it is installed against a wall, then you will lose half the space under it. Please note that it is impossible to break the symmetry of the cross in such a bed. The wooden frame of the double bed gives rigidity to the structure, but furniture made of thick slabs can withstand significant loads.
