If the interior door constantly slams under the influence of a draft, and noticeable chips have already appeared on the walls from the blows of the door leaf, then it's time to think about buying a compact, but very important product - a door stop. We will tell about it in the article.
Types of restrictors
Manufacturers offer several options for the devices mentioned:
- Those that prevent the door from opening (do not allow to swing open beyond the set angle).
- Those that prevent it from slamming (the door leaf always remains ajar).
- The most convenient are universal door stops that can perform both functions, if necessary.
There is also a classification according to the place of attachment. In this case, allocate:
- outdoor;
- wall-mounted;
- overdoor.
Let's take a closer look at them.
Wall restraints
Such products are rubberized stops as simple as possible in design. They serve exclusively to block the impact of the door against the wall when opening more than 90 °. Upgraded models are equipped with a magnet that holds the door in one position after opening.
Wall-mounted door stoppers are handy when the flooring doesn't allow them to be installed. The device is attached to the wall with self-tapping screws.
Another option is self-adhesive silicone wall stickers. They are attached at the level of the handle and gently prevent the impact of the opening door.
Floor Door Stops
The main difference between such a product is the attachment to the floor. It works on the same principle as the wall-mounted one, and can be produced in different forms (in the form of a column, puck, chess pawn).
The advantages of this option can be called versatility, as it is suitable for interior and entrance doors. In addition, such a door stop is not conspicuous and does not interfere. You will have to refuse it only if the room has a film underfloor heating.
Temporary blockers are also offered to consumers, which are placed under the door, preventing its movement.
Door stop
This group includes those devices that are attached to the door or jamb:
- Flip-down limiter on the "goat's leg". It is attached to the bottom of the door leaf and slows down the opening door.
- Tape is attached to the jamb and door leaf. It's quite cheap, but it doesn't look the most elegant.
- Retractable. Very similar to a rod with a brake pad. Extremely easy to use when installed vertically. A significant disadvantage is the mechanical control.
- Soft pads on the door. This is a very convenient, inexpensive and at the same time effective solution for slamming the door leaf.
As it has already become clear, door stops are presented in a wide variety, so before buying, you should decide on the requirements and features of the operation of such a device.
