Electromechanical locks are reliable guardians of any home. However, they will work for a long time and reliably only if, when choosing a lock, all the requirements for the installation and operation of this model are taken into account.
As the name implies, electromechanical locks are hybrid devices in which mechanical and electrical circuits are involved in parallel. The standard mechanical lock in this device is reinforced with an electrical circuit.
Like conventional mechanical ones, they can be mortise or overhead.
When purchasing mortise electromechanical locks, please note that these are frameless structures that are installed inside the door. Usually, locks do not include a button to open, so you can open it with a key or a signal given by a “tablet” of the intercom.
When buying an overhead electromechanical lock, you need to check its contents. It includes:
- Directly castle.
- Its counterpart.
- A larva with a set of keys.
- Installation kit.
Installation of an electromechanical overhead lock is carried out from the side of the apartment, and it opens in three ways:
- Keys included with the larva.
- The signal that is connected to the intercom.
-
Mechanical button mounted on the lock body.
If the button is locked in the pressed state, the lock will take the “open” position.
Such locks are available for doors that can open in any direction (outward or inward), as well as for left-hand or right-hand doors.
Like any device, electromechanical locks have their pros and cons.
Advantages of electromechanical locks:
- Very high reliability of the included keys.
- Easy, no-expert installation required.
- The ability to open the lock at a distance (remotely).
However, it should be remembered that there are rubbing parts in such a lock. Over time, they can wear out and require replacement of the entire lock or its components. This is the main disadvantage inherent in this type of constipation.
Varieties of electromechanical locks
- Electromotive. An electric motor moves a special bolt or a whole system of bolts. Recommended for locking doors at night, because the bolts, pressed by the motor, cannot be released.
- Solenoid. Equipped with a powerful rod made of durable metal. It slides inside the door when power is applied.
- Trigger. The cheapest models. From the outside they open with a regular key, from the inside - with a button.
-
Latch. These electromechanical locks work on a different principle. They have two positions. The first is “normally open” (i.e., it is in the open position without voltage), the second is “normally closed” (i.e., it is in the closed state without voltage). The former are convenient for public places, escape routes, etc.
Normally closed locks are used for security purposes. They only open when power is applied.
Most often, latches are always hung on lightweight doors. Heavier ones require special models, which are also produced by various manufacturers.
