Currently, metal chains, consisting of oval (rounded) links connected by a welding machine, have gained wide popularity among a wide variety of fasteners. The reason for the demand is a versatile purpose. They can be used for both domestic and industrial needs. Depending on the purpose, the chains are divided into economic and technical. As a rule, round-link chains are used for moving, holding, hanging loads, as well as in load-gripping mechanisms in the form of separate elements.
Steel chains are used at construction sites, warehouses, industrial shops, transport organizations. One way to use chains is to hang the hooks of large lifting machines.
According to the shape of the link, metal chains are divided into:
- long links;
- short links.
Short link chain is a popular type of rigging used for stretching. According torequirements of the International Standard DIN 766 (analogous to 5685A), is available calibrated and uncalibrated. Such a chain is made from bars of alloyed, carbon, high-alloyed steels of various diameters and has a galvanized coating in the form of a layer of zinc.
The size of the chain is determined by the caliber of the link (diameter of the section of the rod). Chain links differ from each other in length, width and caliber (diameter).
The short link chain has a shortened link, so it is designed for increased loads and is considered more reliable and durable. But it is not recommended to use it for lifting cargo. Supplied in coils wound on plastic spools from 10 meters to 60 meters long. The coil length depends on the link diameter.
Short link chain. Applications:
- mechanical engineering;
- shipbuilding;
- automotive industry;
- warehouse technology;
- agriculture;
- construction sector.
When choosing a specific steel chain, you need to know the following characteristics:
- breaking load - the maximum load that a short-link metal chain can withstand before failure during tensile testing;
- working load - the largest mass that can be hung on a chain in its operating conditions;
- chain pitch is the inner length of the link at its widest point.
Short link chain. Mounting method
The chain is installed whenhelp of auxiliary rigging elements: carabiners, lanyards, swivels, chain connectors and other connections.
Welded short link chain has a wider range of uses - from light hand-type hoists to heavy lifting cranes. Links by means of butt contact welding are made by one connection. After manufacturing, the chain is subjected to a weld inspection and proof load test. It works great for stretching and has a small stretch factor. The design of the chain allows you to freely adjust the length and has a relative degree of freedom limited to just one link, as well as create a loop using the link-to-link method.
