The rubber-insulated flexible copper stranded cable is an easy-to-install wire.
There are many varieties of these products. In such cables, several conductors act as a current conductor, which are twisted together.
When choosing which option is more suitable, it is necessary to build on the situation itself and the purpose of using such a product. At the same time, all varieties of flexible copper stranded cable in rubber insulation have their own characteristics, pros and cons.
Names
All flexible copper multi-core cables in rubber insulation for general use are produced in accordance with the requirements of GOST 13497-77. This group includes, for example, such a product as KG.
It is universal. In terms of flexibility, the power stranded copper flexible cable belongs to category 5. It is usually used for welding equipment, as well as for laying outside and inside buildings.
Another example is a shielded copper flexible multicore cable KUPEV. It is used to transmit not very powerful control signals. This also includes a control cable flexible copper stranded KUPV.
Relate to 4 and 5 flexibility classes. Separately, there are modifications with a tinned, galvanized and stainless type braid. If a similar wire is used, then “Pm”, “P” and “PN” are added to the names.
In addition, there are other products: KGN, KPG, CPGS, KPGSN, KPGU. If they are produced for use in a warm tropical climate, then the designation "T" is added. In this case, GOST 15150-69 is used.
When "HL" is added to the names, then such wires are intended for areas with a cold climate. In this case, the same GOST applies.
Flexibility classes
The following categories of cable flexibility are distinguished:
- Inside from 1 to 59 wires, and their cross section is from 0.03 to 1000 square meters. mm.
- Diameter is 0.5-2000 square meters mm. Quantity is approximately 7-91.
- In diameter, the cores are from 0.33 to 0.87 square meters. mm.
- Diameter - 0.06-400 square meters mm.
- Diameter is 0.03-625 sq. mm.
- The cable is considered the most flexible. Diameter - 0.06-0.4 sq. mm.
Conditionally the first category is nominal, from the second to the fourth - elevated, and the last two - high.
Characteristic
The rubber-insulated flexible copper stranded cable has special performance characteristics.
Product is oil resistantsubstances, withstands frost, does not spread fire and is characterized by insensitivity to ozone. Due to the use of ethylene propylene type rubber together with butyl rubber, products are obtained with high strength indicators.
They are used to connect mobile equipment rated for 660 V and a frequency of approximately 50 Hz. Cables can be used under various climatic conditions. But the long-term core temperature should not exceed 65 °C.
Cables are suitable for climatic, ventilation, construction, welding equipment.
Advantages and disadvantages
Each type of cable from all those considered has its own characteristics, pluses and minuses.
But in general, their benefits include the following:
- increased flexibility;
- low conductance;
- strength and reliability;
- high switching capacity.
Increased elasticity is achieved through the use of a special rubber insulating layer. In addition, the wires withstand the effects of acids, alkalis, oils. Moisture isn't a problem either. With this insulation, the product can withstand elevated temperatures when a short circuit occurs. But keep in mind that direct sunlight is completely unsuitable.
There are other disadvantages. First of all, this concerns poor performance in HF networks.
Also of the minuses is the high price. In addition, due to the fact that the veins are rounded, the diameteroutside it turns out more than those products that have the shape of sectors.
Copper cables
Rubber insulated copper cable has stranded type core, which can be tinned. Products such as KPGSN are additionally wrapped with a special film.
As for rubber insulation, this is RTI-1, and it is made from butadiene type rubber, and sometimes natural material is also used.
Cable stranded copper flexible 2x1, 5 or any other sizes can have the corresponding digital and color marking. The core is polyester threads. Such cables with copper conductors can be twisted without additional materials. The shell is made of special non-flammable rubber, as chloroprene is added.
Cable stranded copper flexible 5x4 and other sizes are used in water and on land, in various rooms with natural ventilation. But the main thing is that precipitation and ultraviolet rays do not affect. High levels of humidity due to condensation are allowed.
Ship wires
There are special marine cables with rubber insulation. They have shielded wires. In addition, they are armored with galvanized wire braid.
Similar products are used in control and telephone networks. They are suitable for indoor and outdoor installations, but UV protection is required in any case.
The wire has 2 twisted copper strands. The braid is steel. It must be primed. The product withstands100% humidity.
Cable design
KG is a striking example of a flexible multicore cable with a rubber sheath. Inside, copper wire with a tin-lead coating is used. The veins are round in shape. As a separation, an artificial special film is used, which covers the twisted cores.
A product without such a film is allowed. But then the veins must be separated from the shell. For insulation, special rubber is used. It has a characteristic coloration. The zero core is usually blue. This color can be used for others, but not grounding - it is always greenish-yellow. The sheath is made of rubber hose type.
As for KGN, it also has an oil-resistant rubber shell. She doesn't spread fire. KPGSN has the same property. CNG has the same interlayer as CG, but it has an increased level of elasticity. This also applies to the KPGN.
The CPGS has the same sheath as the CPGS but has a profiled rubber core.
KPGU has an interlayer similar to KPG, but at the same time, the cores have increased flexibility, and there is a rubber compound filler between them.
PRS has twisted strands. Both the insulation and the outer shell are also rubber. The PRSU has the same cable, but the sheath is thicker.
In what conditions is it used
KG cable is used in cases where the temperature is from -40 to 50 °C. In this case, bends are allowed, but the radius must be at least 8 diameters.
KGN is used when availablethe likelihood of contact with the product with disinfectants or aggressive components. Suitable for agriculture. Temperature from -30 to 50 °С is allowed. By the way, CPGN is used in the same conditions. This also applies to the KPGSN.
CNG is used at temperatures from -50 to 50 °C, but bending with a radius of at least 5 diameters is allowed.
CPGS is suitable for shocks and strong pressure, high loads. The operating temperature is -50 to 50 °C. Allows bending, but the radius must be at least 5 core diameters.
KPGU allows bending with a radius of 10 diameters. Suitable temperature is -50 to 50°C.
PRS is used for equipment with a voltage of approximately 380 V. The frequency is up to 200 Hz. Working temperature - from -40 to 65 °С. The same applies to the PRSU.
