Before choosing a cable for a landline phone, you need to decide what functions you will need from the equipment during operation. To use the device only for local and long-distance calls, a TRP telephone wire is well suited. To connect a fax or modem, in order to get access to the Internet through a telephone line, you need to stretch the twisted-pair cable.
TRP cable
TRP is a two-wire telephone distribution wire. Its cores are made of copper, 0.4 or 0.5 mm thick, covered with polyethylene insulation and separated by a jumper for mounting. With this separation base, the cable has a flat appearance and can be easily attached to walls and ceilings with small nails.
In order not to damage the cores during fixation, the insulation is made transparent in most cases. You can also lay it in a cable duct or in recesses for hidden wiring. The cable is produced in coils of 500m, in everyday life it is also known as "noodles".
Used for telephone line wiring both outdoors (outdoors) and indoors (in this case, the service life is significantly increased, up to 25 years).
It can be used to connect fromswitchboard in the entrance to the room, this telephone wire is also used to connect the intercom.
Twisted pair cable
UTP cable is more modern for connecting landlines, otherwise it is called "twisted pair". It has high technical characteristics, therefore, excellent communication.
UTP 2 x 2 cable is used for telephone communication, which consists of two twisted pairs of copper conductors and PVC (polyvinyl chloride) insulation. The conductors are twisted in pairs in UTP in order to reduce the effect of interference on the conductor by distributing electromagnetic noise over two conductors. This is the main advantage of UTP wire over TRP, which does not have such noise immunity.
Twisted pair is mounted on the wall using mounting brackets if the wall is wooden. A cable channel can be installed on concrete and a telephone wire can be placed in it. It can also be laid in a plastic baseboard.
UTP is produced in standard bays of 305 m. Before installation, it is necessary to accurately measure the required distance and take the cable with a margin, since it is not recommended to splice it - this reduces the quality of communication. With the help of "twisted pair" you can connect both the phone and the Internet at the same time.
Connecting an outdoor outlet
Outdoor outlet is the one that is attached to the surface of the wall. It can be screwed on with self-tapping screws, or glued on double-sided tape.
Before you get started, you need to knowthat during an incoming call, the voltage in the telephone wire jumps from 60 V (in standby mode) to 120 V, which is quite sensitive. Wearing rubber gloves is recommended.
You must do the following:
- First of all, you need to strip the ends of the wires with a special tool - a stripper. If this is not the case, then you can do it with side cutters or a sharp knife, but only carefully so as not to damage the cores.
- Next, you should put on cable lugs and crimp with a hand tool - a crimper. This is the most modern and reliable way. But if there is no crimping tool, you can simply twist the fibers with your fingers and tin with a soldering iron.
- Now you can connect the wires to the telephone jack.
Communication requires only two wires and two terminals. But the connector has four terminals, because it is designed for two telephone lines. A negative wire should be screwed to the terminal with a red wire, and a positive wire coming from the communication source should be screwed to the terminal with a green wire. Polarity can be determined using a multimeter or tester. If these devices are not at hand, you can connect at random and swap the cores until the phone works.
Internal socket connection
How to connect a telephone wire to a telephone socket has already been discussed above. It remains to understand how to fix the internal socket:
- To do this, a hole is drilled in the wall with a puncher with a special cone nozzle, according to sizeoutlets.
- The incoming telephone wire is brought to the hole through a groove hollowed out along the length of the wall.
- In this opening for the outlet, a socket is installed, fixed with fasteners and a mortar of building gypsum.
- Then the connected wires are connected to the outlet, according to the diagram. The operability of the phone is checked and the working part is screwed to the socket.
- It remains only to attach the decorative cover and use the outlet.
