Every household needs a minimum set of power tools to get the job done with less time and effort. One of these devices is an electric sharpener.
Perhaps in an ordinary apartment there is no special need for it, since the knife can be sharpened by hand. But in a private or country house, this power tool is becoming more in demand. In the country, it can be used to sharpen garden and household equipment.
Also, an emery machine is also necessary when carrying out repairs in the apartment. On it you can sharpen drill bits for a drill, chisels for a puncher, a tool for removing old paint and plaster. With the help of an abrasive stone, tiles, metal pipes, wooden skirting boards and so on are adjusted.
This power tool is safe to use as it has low engine speed. The household version of the sharpener is designed for 2 hours of continuous operation. The power of a household emery machine is from 120 to 400 watts. The larger the motor power, the harder the material the sharpener can handle.
Choosing an Electric Sharpener
If you use a tool that requires periodic sharpening, grinding or polishing, you need to purchase an electric sharpener. How to choose it depends on the type and amount of work you are going to use the tool for.
For sharpening simple household tools, simple models with two circles of the same diameter but different thicknesses are quite suitable. Usually one of the wheels has a thickness of 40 mm and a fine-grained structure, the second (20 mm thick) is intended for coarse pre-treatment. To sharpen kitchen knives, emery with a power of 150 W and a stone diameter of 125 mm is enough. To sharpen shovels or axes, you need an abrasive wheel with a diameter of 175-200 mm and a machine with a 250-300 W motor.
Pay attention to the diameter of the inner hole of the grinding wheel (fit). The most common is 32 mm. For landings of 16 mm, 20 mm, 12, 7 mm, it will be more difficult to choose the right circle. When choosing emery, it is desirable to provide that the nozzles on the shaft allow you to install discs with different inner diameters.
If you are going to process blanks for a tool, an electric sharpener with an additional brush disk will suit you. It serves to pre-clean the material that has not been sharpened before. In some models, the second circle is replaced by a sanding belt. To sharpen drills, you need a machine with special grooves. But such grooves are usually not provided on tools for processing large and thick products, such as axes orshovels.
For finer surface treatment of objects, there are models with different speeds of rotation of the circles. They are usually perpendicular in sharpeners. But such machines have large dimensions and they need a large area. The power tool market is saturated with a variety of models of similar devices from various manufacturers. Of the domestic brands, the Zubr and Kraton machines have a good reputation.
Electric knife sharpener
There are household devices designed specifically for sharpening kitchen knives or scissors. The electric sharpener is now used not only by chefs of restaurants and cafes, but also by ordinary housewives. To get a sharp blade, no special skills are required. During sharpening, there is no need to perform complex manipulations with the knife.
The electric knife sharpener itself determines the correct sharpening angle. The process takes place in two or three stages, followed by verification of the result. First, there is direct sharpening with abrasives, then the surface of the blade is polished on ceramic plates. Models are often equipped with diamond-coated element blocks. Therefore, they work for a long time without the need to replace parts.
