Types of mounting mirror decor

Every year, such a style direction in the interior as minimalism becomes more and more popular. Lush carved baguettes have long faded into the background. Installation of large frameless mirrors in different rooms will subtly emphasize this style and good taste of the owner. It will not be difficult to fix such an accessory in the frame on the wall, it is enough to have several loops and self-tapping screws that are screwed into the wall. To hang a frameless mirror with no visible fasteners, there are two main ways:

  1. Usingglue or tape.
  2. Mechanical method (screws, staples).

Adhesive tape or glue

You can stick a mirror literally to any surface: in the bathroom on tiles, in a wardrobe on wooden doors, on drywall, which is coated with a primer, on PVC and MDF panels or on concrete bases. The basic rule is that the surface is even, dry and clean.

For mounting a mirror without fasteners, double-sided construction tape or glue is used. Tape tapes are glued vertically on the reverse side of the mirror along the entire canvas. The distance between such tapes is 8-10 cm. The protective layer from the adhesive tape is removed only before decor is attached.

Carry out work at an ambient temperature of +10 degrees. If the indicator is much lower, apply glue, which is also applied to a clean and dry surface of the mirror.

Mounting a mirror on a brick base

For installation with glue, the surface of the wall must be prepared - if necessary, remove the wallpaper, treat it with a primer, and then sand it. The walls are well cleaned by wiping them with special alcohol solutions. To mount mirrors on a brick wall, use an amalgam-coated glass adhesive. The mixture is applied to the surface not in a continuous layer, but in parallel stripes. The second application option is with drops in a checkerboard pattern. If this particular method of mounting the mirror on the wall is chosen, you need to understand that it will no longer be possible to dismantle and outweigh the decor in the future. You can only carefully break the mirrorsurface and remove all small elements.

Mounting a mirror on a tile floor

If we talk about the tiled surface, then the practical option is to use adhesive tape or glue. The original solution is to dismantle the tiles in the area of the intended placement of the decor, in order to then paste the mirror there. The third option is to hang the mirror decor using hardware that is inserted into the drilled holes. To do this, you need to prepare a screwdriver (or drill), tile drills, plastic dowels with screws, mounting brackets.

Then proceed in one of two ways:

  • Holes are made in the wall, the mirror is fixed with screws. Dowels and special silicone gaskets are installed in advance, which can be purchased at the plumbing department of a building supermarket.
  • Install reliable and durable mirror holders in the form of brackets that are fixed on the wall. Such devices support the decor with "paws".

Fixing to drywall

Drywall is a wall and ceiling finishing material that can simply crack during operation. The technology for attaching a mirror to a plasterboard wall is determined by its mass. If the weight of the decor is less than 10 kg, use liquid nails or double-sided tape. To mount various devices for attaching a mirror, for example, special “butterfly” dowels, holes are prepared in advance with a screwdriver. Mirrors weighing more than 10 kg are not mounted on such walls.

Secrets of installing a large canvas

To visually increase the space of the room, they mount large mirrors on the wall. Attaching a canvas of impressive size or creating a mirror surface from individual elements requires the knowledge of some secrets:

  • The base must be perfectly flat, as any defects contribute to cracking of the canvas or curvature of the mirror surface.
  • For safety purposes, the canvases are fixed with special glue for mounting the mirror.
  • Gaps of a few millimeters are left between the elements of the mirror wall.

Features of placing mirrors in different rooms

Mirrors can be present in various parts of the apartment: in the kitchen, children's room, living room, corridor. In order for them to serve for a long period of time and bring maximum benefit, it is necessary to take into account the conditions of the premises when performing installation work. Simple tips will help with this.

  • In a small dark room, it is worth attaching a mirror exactly opposite the window. This will increase the amount of light in the room.
  • In the kitchen, experts do not recommend mounting mirror products near the stove, as frequent temperature changes and hot steam during cooking will quickly spoil the decor.
  • Before installing mirrors in the bathroom, it is important to treat the ends and the back with silicone sealant.
  • If the decor is in the corridor, then it is recommended to hang on the wallhang lamps (sconces). This will visually expand the space of a narrow room and add a diffused light effect.

Do not hang mirror accessories at an angle to the vertical, this distorts the image. Before mounting the mirror decor in the hallway or corridor, choose a place where you can look into it from a distance of at least one meter. Mirrors with a height of 60 cm provide a view to the waist, and mirror sheets with a height of 120 cm or more provide a full-length view.

Mounting a mirror on the wall is a simple matter, although it requires accuracy, some skills. Knowledge of the theoretical part, of course, will facilitate the installation process, but it is best to practice on small mirrors. Large canvases and the creation of complex fasteners should be entrusted to professionals.
