People, making repairs in their homes, sometimes do not even know that all sorts of interior and general design elements do not at all belong to modern inventions and innovations. All arcades, niches, columns, ledges and recesses in the walls are borrowed by us from the past. For example, arches are probably the most ancient elements in the decor of the room. They not only served as decoration, but also served as load-bearing foundation structures and were an indispensable part during the construction of a house, temple, palace or bridge.

The main material for the construction of the arch in the distant past were bricks and stones.

Arcades made of such material seemed very bulky, heavy and massive.

Their modern counterparts, on the contrary, are light, but at the same time they are not inferior either in beauty or in strength. Only now their main function has changed.

Modern plasterboard arches, for example, are not a load-bearing part, but serve as a special element in the design of the room. They will be discussed.

Designers love to use plasterboard arches of various designs in the interior. These elements can perform several functions at the same time. They will help to divide the room into zones, and unite the space, and decorate the passage to the rooms.

They decorate the corners, help to visually enlarge a small room, and turn a large one into a cozy corner full of comfort and pleasant atmosphere. As you can see, drywall interior arches are very functional and practical.

What are arches

It should be said right away that not only drywall arches are made. The material for this element of the interior can be wood, a plastic base, a glass surface. Acrylic arches are also made. And the form depends on the materials. For example, glass cannot be made into a rounded base.

It is generally accepted that arches have only a rounded shape. No, this is a delusion. They are made both oval and rectangular, and also have a curvilinear shape.

Let's pay attention to the manufacture of drywall arches. First, the shape and size are determined. Know that the higher the opening, the more spectacular the arch looks. All drywall arches consist of three main elements: a semicircle and two equal straight (or curved) parts, installed along the length of the opening. When the future shape is determined, you can proceed to the fasteners. This will require profiles. The profile is fastened with self-tapping screws. To give roundness, on a straight profileincisions are made. After it can be easily bent into the desired shape.

When the arch structure from the profile is installed, you can proceed to the sheathing. First, contours are drawn on a drywall sheet, then the desired shape is cut out, for example, with an electric jigsaw. So that the material does not break during work, the front part of the drywall must be moistened, then shaped and fixed. As the drywall dries, it will take the desired bend. The material is also attached to the base using self-tapping screws.

Of course, in order for the drywall arches to have an aesthetic shape, it is also necessary to carry out all cosmetic work: attach a perforated corner, lay sickle on the seams, putty and, of course, paint.

As you can see, there is nothing complicated in making a drywall arch. The main thing is not to rush, be careful in observing the dimensions and adhere to the rules for working with drywall.
