Building houses using Finnish technology has become very popular in Russia. Many are attracted by the opportunity to acquire comfortable housing in a short time, while its cost is very democratic. You can assemble such a house with your own hands. It will not cause any special difficulties and its decoration. But installing windows in a frame house requires certain knowledge.

Let's consider the main options for arranging window openings and the technology for carrying out these works.

Which window systems can be installed in a frame building?

Today, we have two options for window systems: made of wood and plastic.

Wooden structures are most often presented in the form of a frame. Glasses must be additionally inserted into them, fixing them with special strips (glazing beads). Such products usually do not have a final finish and are delivered to the site without seals. Depending on the wishes of the owner of the building, the frame can be either single or double.

More expensive varieties may have built-in double-glazed windows. For their manufacture, oak or larch wood is used.

Plastic window systems are already sold with built-in glass. They may differ in the quality of the profile used, in the width of the air gap between the glasses and in the cost of fittings.

Installation of windows in a frame house can be carried out using both wooden and plastic structures. The choice is made based on your own preferences.

Features of wood products

To determine which type of window systems is appropriate in your case, you should compare the operational and technical indicators of both options.

If we talk about the advantages of wood windows, then first of all we should mention environmental friendliness. This is followed by a beautiful natural pattern, pleasant texture and relative cheapness of the material. The main advantage over plastic structures is the ability to repair wooden frames.

Their disadvantages include instability to climate change. Under the influence of sunlight or excessive moisture, products can change their parameters, dry out and rot. We must not forget about the need for constant tinting of wood and periodic caulking of cracks.

Plastic systems

Installing plastic windows in a frame house is the most appropriate. In support of this, a number of their positive qualities can be cited:

  • resistance to changes in temperature and humidity;
  • long service life;
  • no need for periodic tinting and insulation of frames;
  • excellent noise isolation qualities.

Separately, it should be noted the stability of the frame over time: it does not distort and does not change its linear dimensions.

The disadvantages of such systems include high cost and complexity of repair. If the window is damaged, it will have to be completely replaced.

Depending on which indicators seem most important to you, you can choose any option. In frame buildings, both are used quite often.

Preparation for work: tools and materials

Installation of windows in a frame house begins immediately after sheathing the outer walls of the building. If you decide to do the work yourself, prepare all the necessary tools:

  • hand tools (hacksaw, hammer, large screwdriver);
  • electric drill;
  • jigsaw;
  • plummet;
  • sealing material;
  • building level;
  • self-tapping screws, bolts;
  • wooden bars.

If plastic double-glazed windows were purchased for arranging the opening, then special fasteners must be purchased for installation.

What fasteners are needed to install a PVC profile in a frame building?

Installation of plastic windows in a frame house can be carried out using two types of fasteners: self-tapping screws and anchorplates.

Self-tapping screws are considered a more durable material for fixing a window, but such installation is time consuming. Plates allow you to install the window in record time, but they can not be used on all structures. Windows of non-standard sizes cannot be securely fixed with plates.

If the window is installed with the disassembly of the double-glazed unit, then you can use ordinary anchor bolts. They cut into the walls from the inside of the window frame. The mount is as strong as possible.

Technology of installation of wooden structures

Proper installation of wooden windows in a frame house begins with a thorough cleaning of the opening. Clean surfaces are treated with an antiseptic composition. After the opening has dried, you can proceed with the installation of the window block.

The technology of installing a wooden window is represented by the sequence of the following works:

  1. A rough base for a window from wide boards is installed along the perimeter of the opening. They are screwed to the base with self-tapping screws. You can adjust the height of the box using plastic or wooden spacers. The correct installation is controlled by the building level.
  2. A wooden frame is installed in the prepared base. It is attracted to the opening with self-tapping screws or fixed with nails.
  3. After the installation of the frame, its glazing begins. Special grooves are coated with silicone sealant, after which glass is inserted into them. It is fixed usingglazing beads. They are carefully nailed around the perimeter of each glass.

The final step in installing wooden windows in a frame house is to protect them from mold and atmospheric phenomena. The entire surface of the frame must be treated with an antiseptic, and after it dries, varnished or enamelled.

Installation of PVC systems on anchor bolts

Starting the installation of a plastic window, you must first remove the double-glazed window from it. To do this, you need to remove a special plastic bead with a latch. Now you can start working.

Instructions for installing plastic windows in a frame house includes the following work:

  1. Using a drill in the window block, you need to make several holes for fasteners. In the side racks, 4 holes are usually made, and on the lower and upper crossbars - 3 each. The drill is selected depending on the diameter of the fastener.
  2. The block is located in the opening. Plastic linings are installed on all its sides (if they are not available, you can use wooden bars). There must be at least 2 strips on each side of the opening, and one in each of the corners.
  3. The window construction is leveled. Skews are eliminated by adjusting the slats. Here you need to ensure that the gap between the block and the opening on all sides is about 1 cm.
  4. Anchors are installed and screwed into pre-prepared holes. To prevent the block from warping, it is not necessary to pull it strongly.

It's donecorrect installation of plastic windows in a frame house. When fixing the base is over, you can install double-glazed windows. The gaps between the window and the opening are filled with mounting foam.

Installation of PVC windows in a frame house: seam processing features

It is very important that the window is closed when the block is foamed. Otherwise, the composition may expand greatly, and the window will be deformed.

If the plastic parts of the block are not protected by a shipping film, they must be pasted over with masking tape. This will prevent foam from getting on the front of the window and help maintain its original appearance. It is quite difficult to remove the dried composition, so it is better not to neglect this advice.

After the mounting foam has dried, its excess is carefully cut off with a construction knife. The outer seam between the window and the slope is covered with special vapor barrier tapes. Their edges must necessarily overlap each other.

First of all, the bottom joint is glued, then the vertical ones. The top seam is covered last. His tape should cover the ends of the side strips.

Mounting windows with anchor plates

If you have not previously installed a window in a frame house with your own hands (meaning PVC windows), then it will be difficult for you to remove the double-glazed window. In this case, it is better to install the window using special anchor plates.

The difference between this method and the previous one is that before installing the block in the opening, you need to fix itfixation plates. At the same time, the glass unit fixed at the factory remains in place.

Anchor plates are inserted into the grooves of the plastic profile and screwed to the base with self-tapping screws. On the outside of the window system, fasteners are fixed for installing a mosquito net (if any).

Next, the block is placed in the opening and leveled. The plates can now be attached to the side walls. For this, a puncher and self-tapping screws are used. Their length must be at least 40 cm, and their diameter must be at least 5 mm.

Regardless of what fasteners are used in the process of work, you need to ensure that the distance from it to the corner of the window is at least 15 cm. Based on this rule, the frequency of installation of plates is calculated.

Proper installation of a window in a frame house involves the installation of a window sill, low tide and slopes. Consider how to properly mount them.

Drain installation

If many homeowners can refuse decorative window trim, then the presence of a low tide is a must. This element protects the lower joint of the window and opening from moisture penetration.

Works on its installation are performed as follows:

  1. Before installing the ebb, the place where the window joins and the opening is glued with waterproofing tape. To do this, carefully remove excess mounting foam. Glue a protective strip on an even seam. For these purposes, it is recommended to use wide tapes. The material should not only cover the seam, but also capture the edges of the window andopening.
  2. A special profile bar (or stand profile) is attached to the bottom joint, and the ebb is screwed to it. The place of its connection with the window can be additionally blown out with mounting foam.

Please note that the tide helps protect only the bottom joint of the window. The remaining seams also need to be processed, since the mounting foam is destroyed under the influence of moisture and the sun.

To protect the seams, they must be cleaned of excess foam and covered with a waterproofing film. The strips are overlapped.

Next, you can proceed with the installation of the window sill and slopes.

Slope arrangement rules

In order to cover the slopes with plastic panels, you need to install a U-shaped profile around the perimeter of the entire opening. Further, a crate is assembled on the entire surface to be trimmed. In the case of frame houses, it is more expedient to use thin wooden planks for this.

During operation, make sure that there is a gap of 10 mm between the top and side bar. The slope panel is inserted into this space.

The top sheet is mounted first. One of its edges is inserted into the metal profile, and the other is screwed to the lattice base. To fix it, you can use both self-tapping screws and staples.

Side slopes are arranged in the same way. Their edges are covered with special F-shaped strips. To arrange the inner corners, the edges of the sheets used are cut at 45 degrees. All seams on the slopes are coated with sealantin the color of the main material.

Self-installation of the window sill plate

The window sill is even easier to install. It can be inserted into the base profile, and wooden bars can be placed under the stove. In this case, plastic corner plugs must first be installed from both edges of the product.

When the height of the window sill is adjusted with the help of pads, the empty space is simply filled with mounting foam. After that, the plate must be pressed well to the base and left until the foam dries.

This completes the window installation process.

Summing up

Finally, we list a few features of installing plastic windows in a frame house:

  • window systems should be installed before interior wall cladding and roofing;
  • before installing windows, the walls adjacent to them must be covered with a waterproofing film;
  • holes in the film, made in the opening area, must be carefully bent and secured with staples.

A positive feature of frame houses is that there is no need to wait for the building to shrink before installing windows. However, this does not mean that the work can be done hastily. The slightest installation errors can lead to the accumulation of condensate inside the wooden walls. And this will certainly lead to their deterioration.
