There are many beautiful flowers in nature, and among them are lilies. Planting and caring for these perennial herbaceous plants is fairly straightforward. By sowing the seeds, already in the 1st year you can get small bulbs, and in the 2nd year they will bloom. Lilies belong to the lily family. Features of the genus - bulbs, elongated leaves with parallel venation, flowers of six petals, with a three-nested ovary and six stamens.
Need loose, permeable, nutritious soil for lilies. Planting in the spring is usually done. Flowers do not like stagnant water. Most Asian species, as well as tubular ones, are grown in open areas. But still, they should not be planted close to trees, where the soil is often too shaded and dried.
For a lily, planting and care need very careful. So the soil must be prepared in advance, because it is a perennial plant, and in the same place it will grow for 3-5 years without a transplant. On heavy soils, before planting the bulbs, humus, peat, and sand are introduced. It is important to remember that an excess of organic fertilizers causes increased and rapid growth of aerial parts to the detriment of the formation of he althy, strong bulbs, reduces resistance to diseases, winter hardiness, weakens flowering.
Where do lilies begin? Planting and care begins with planting bulbs in autumn or spring. Most lilies prefer early fall plantings. The optimal time is September. If the month is warm, then the bulbs have time to take root. If frosts come early, then the flowers should be covered with warming material.
It is important to keep the soil of the lily (planting and care does not require much effort) in a loose, weed-free, moist state, protect the flowers from pests and apply top dressing. The leaves of this plant are very sensitive to water, therefore, in order to avoid moisture getting on them, they are watered under the root. It is advisable to apply top dressing along with watering or before it.
Planting lilies in spring is carried out as early as possible - at the beginning of germination, because young stems in spring break quickly or are simply very fragile. If the bulbs need to be preserved for some period, then they are stored in a cool place, shifting with sawdust, moss, earth or sand.
Prepared onions are carefully examined, the sick are discarded, the decayed scales are removed. They also shorten the living too long roots, and cut off the lifeless ones. Next, the bulbs are pickled with a 2% solution of fundozol. Then they are already planted in holes or funnels to a depth equal to three times the height of the bulb. After planting, be sure to mulch the soil with humus, peat.
Reproduction of lilies with scales is the most effective way. From one bulbyou can get from 15 to 100 new plants. At any time of the year, you can separate the scales from the bulbs, soak in potassium permanganate (its solution) for 15 minutes, dry slightly and place in a container with moistened sawdust or plastic bags. After 4-5 weeks, bulbs with roots appear on the scales. They are planted in the ground in spring.
Also, the lily reproduces by bulbs (stem buds). A bulb is separated from the stem at the end of summer and planted in the ground (depth 2-3 cm), mulched, watered. Plants begin to bloom in the third year after planting.
The lily looks very nice on the site. Planting and caring for it will bring you pleasure, and grown flower beds will bring joy.
