Panel characteristics
Siding, due to its high quality and ease of installation, has been widely used in the construction and repair of country houses. Now you can find several types of panels, however, regardless of the structure and thickness, they all have similar advantages:
- do not lose their properties in different temperature conditions (-40 to +50 degrees Celsius);
- off;
- not affected by corrosion;
- do not need special care;
- have a low cost.
In addition to the above functions, it is worth noting the many shades and colors that siding has. Panel assembly is also quite simple: by following simple rules, almost anyone can handle it without involving specialists.
Types of material
Siding -facing material, characterized by a protective function and decorative qualities. Depending on the material from which it is made, wood, vinyl, plinth, steel and aluminum siding are distinguished. The assembly of panels in the form of stone slabs gives the impression of solidity and good quality. Most often they are used for sheathing the basement and walls of houses. Their appearance is identical to natural stone and is unpretentious during installation and maintenance. Using them for finishing the foundation, they increase the parameters of sound insulation, thermal insulation.
Wood panels are used to decorate the walls of houses, even in areas with high humidity. During their production, the material is treated with a composition that excludes rotting and corrosion, as a result of which the guaranteed service life reaches several decades.
Vinyl siding is the most popular. Its assembly requires precise adherence to technology, namely, taking into account expansion gaps that provide thermal expansion. This is the most common type, since it is most often used for sheathing houses.
Facing with metal panels is most often used in industrial construction. These panels are characterized by special strength and a rich choice of colors.
Sheath Features
Finishing with siding involves the use of special accessories for sheathing internal and external corners, as well as joints. For these purposes, issuedpanels with a specific purpose. Sheathing starts with a starting profile, and ends with a finish one. For the design of corners, external and internal corner panels are provided. For edging door and window openings, a J-profile is provided. If necessary, connect two rows of panels together, use a connecting H-profile.
Assembling vinyl siding starts from the bottom. Having completed the sheathing of the first row, proceed to the next, and so on. The panels are attached strictly to the laths of the crate. For this, it is better to use aluminum nails or screws with an anti-corrosion coating.
Mount Features
When you decide to do your own cladding at home, you need to follow certain rules to ensure durability and reliability. You should be aware that when temperatures change, the siding will shrink or expand, so the holes for the fasteners are oval in shape and the nails must be hammered strictly in the middle, not finishing off a little, leaving a gap of several millimeters. This requires some experience, but if it is not, then it is better to use screws. Nails or screws must be driven into the hole in the panel at exactly a ninety degree angle. Even slight misalignment will prevent thermal expansion.
The siding assembly procedure excludes hammering nails or driving screws directly into the panel itself. If it is necessary to fix the panel in a place where there is no hole, then it must be done using a perforator. After fixing the panel, it must be movedleft-right. If there is free movement, then the fastening is done correctly.
Wall cladding can be carried out in any weather. However, it must be taken into account that at high temperatures the panels are already expanded, and at negative temperatures, on the contrary, they are compressed. Therefore, thermal clearances must be correctly performed. You can cut the siding with a hacksaw or metal shears.
Preparatory stage
Assembling siding with your own hands - is a fairly simple process, subject to the necessary technological rules. Sheathing the house with vinyl sheets should take place strictly on a flat surface, so if the walls have bumps, then crate should be done. The initial optimal material is considered to be a wooden beam or a metal profile. Using a tree, it is required to pre-treat it with an antiseptic solution.
The crate must be done around the entire perimeter with a distance between the slats of 40 centimeters. If the house requires additional insulation, then a layer of heat-insulating material is placed under the planks.
Foundation siding finishing
The work begins with determining the lowest point on the foundation, indenting up 5 cm and using a rope to set the level around the entire perimeter. First, the corners and the launch pad are installed. When joining panels, one should not forget about the gaps for thermal expansion. It is better to start work from the back side, consistently moving towards the facade. Basement siding is available in standard sizes (45 centimeters). As a rule, finishing requiresmounting two rows.
The foundation of the house is the most vulnerable place, because it is affected by high temperatures in summer and snow and ice in winter. According to the characteristics of PVC panels, they are identical to natural stone. Therefore, by choosing basement siding as a sheathing, you can protect the foundation from the negative effects of the environment for a long time.
House upholstery
After the completion of the foundation sheathing, further assembly of the siding is carried out. The instructions for laying polyvinyl chloride indicate that when sheathing walls, first of all, they mount corners and install platbands on door and window openings. After that, the main work of laying the panels begins, with the first starting panel attached to the top row of the basement siding. It is necessary to overlap the panels to each other horizontally. The overlap must be at least 2.5 centimeters to prevent snow from getting inside. It is better to start work from the back of the house, moving towards the facade. The last row is finished by mounting the finishing profile under the eaves. If necessary, the last panel can be trimmed so that it fits freely into the finishing profile.
Metal siding sheathing
Metal panels, along with vinyl, are characterized by high strength and durability characteristics. Metal siding is produced in steel, galvanized and aluminum. The first two are mainly used for cladding industrial buildings. And aluminum has proven itself well when sheathing country houses. Its mainadvantage - durability: it is not affected by mold and fungus. From a decorative point of view, it also has advantages, because in addition to standard colors, these panels can be easily painted in any color.
However, if the shape of the sheet changes upon impact, it is impossible to restore the original appearance. It is also worth noting that this material has a low thermal conductivity, therefore, using it, it is necessary to insulate the building. Installation must be carried out with care, since violation of the integrity of the top layer leads to the formation of corrosion.
