OSB-3, whose characteristics are of interest to many home craftsmen today, has recently gained great popularity. The scope of these canvases is very wide, including OSB is often used in the arrangement of the base for mounting the lining of the roof and shingles.
Characteristics of OSB-3
OSB-3, whose technical characteristics comply with safety standards, can be applied in the interior of residential premises. The OSB-3 class suggests the possibility of using the material when carrying out external and internal work. Humidity in this case can be moderate, which distinguishes canvases of this class from OSB-1 and OSB-2. The last two options are not so impressive density and do not undergo even a little high humidity.
OSB-3 is based on wood chips. Cloths are obtained by pressing wood chips, when they are exposed to high pressure and considerable temperature. The adhesive base here is a waterproof resin. The slabs consist of several layers, the chips in each of which are differently oriented. OSB-3 is a board whose characteristics deserve attention - it is much stronger and more elastic than wood. The material is free of defects in the form of knots.
Scope of application
OSB-3, whose characteristics are impressive, can be used in the construction of frame buildings, as well as in the process of sheathing the wall frame system. Canvases are also convenient for leveling floors, as well as ceilings. Builders have found another use for OSB: in the construction of a structural system of stairs and landings.
Leveling the floor with OSB–3
OSB-3, whose characteristics allow the material to gain more and more impressive popularity, can also be used when leveling the floor. Their laying is carried out on a pre-mounted lag system. At the same time, a temperature gap must remain between the canvases at the time of laying, the minimum width of which is 3 mm. Whereas between the plate and the wall, the width of this groove should be equivalent to 12 mm. The canvases should be positioned, directing the main axis at an angle of 90 ° with respect to the logs. The conjugation of the short edges of the OSB should be located on the logs. Long edges that do not have a stop on the bars should have a tongue-and-groove lock, shackle or some kind of support.
If the material is laid on logs installed on the ground, then the soil must be well waterproofed. To fasten the plates, self-tapping screws should be used, which can be replaced with spiral 51 mm nails. Then as ifring fasteners are used, then its length should be equal to 45-75 mm. Fasteners are installed in increments of 30 cm, as for intermediate supports, fasteners are installed on the joints at a distance of 15 cm.
OSB-3 - a plate whose characteristics will determine whether it is worth buying - can be glued to the surface of the log, this will increase the rigidity of the system. In this case, it is recommended to use a mounting adhesive made on the basis of chemical solvents. Tongue-and-groove areas require D3 type adhesive.
Tools and materials
To carry out work on leveling the floor or arranging the floor, it is necessary to prepare some tools and materials, among them are:

Installing OSB-3 on walls
OSB-3, whose characteristics allow installation on all types of surfaces, can also be used when leveling walls. Between the canvases, as well as around the openings, a gap should be left, the minimum width of which is 3 mm. When cladding walls, professionals advise using OSB, the thickness of which is 12 mm. If there is a need to make additional insulation of the system, then you can purchase mineral wool, and apply mineral plaster on top of the plates.
OSB-3 plywood, the characteristics of which attract home craftsmen and professionalbuilders, mounted on the wall using self-tapping screws or 51 mm nails. When installing fasteners, do not approach the edge of the sheet by more than 1 cm.
Installation of OSB on the roof
OSB-3 boards, the technical characteristics of which allow them to be used for outdoor work, should be fixed only after checking the evenness and strength of the rafter legs or the joist of the lathing system. If these elements are not installed evenly enough, this will affect the appearance of the roof. If the sheets get wet in the rain, it is not recommended to use them until they dry. When installing above an attic or any other space that is not heated in winter, you should take care of ventilation. Holes for this should not be less than 1/150 of the entire horizontal base.
Given the structure of the canvas, it must be fastened with a long edge at a right angle with respect to the rafter leg or the elements of the crate. The pairing of the short edges of the sheet should be on the supports of the roof. As for the long edges, they also need to be hedged or stapled where necessary. Between the material with straight edges, it is worth forming a gap, the minimum width of which is 3 mm: this will eliminate deformation during expansion. The slab must be covered with at least two supports.
Installation with a chimney
At the time of fixing the material, the craftsmen should remain on the rafters or elementscrates. If the roof system has an opening for a chimney, then the sheathing must be moved away from the chimney by a distance approved by building codes. In this case, it is also necessary to use self-tapping screws or nails. Fasteners should be installed at a distance of 30 cm, placing self-tapping screws on the rafter legs or components of the crate. As for the mating areas, the distance between the screws should be 15 cm.
