Needless to say, in our small apartments, rooms tend to perform several functions. They are both an office and a bedroom, a living room and a dining room, a bedroom and a nursery, etc. And it is very good if it is possible to separate these functions and equip one room, albeit a very small one, only for family rest and receiving guests.
When designing any room, it is important to determine all its advantages and disadvantages and, taking this into account, develop a design. A small living room can become very cozy if, when planning it, it is reasonable to dispose of a small space and choose finishes, furniture and accessories, taking into account the area. A room of a modest size has one important advantage - for its arrangement, even with a modest budget, you can choose expensive, exclusive materials, because they will need a little.

The success of any project depends on careful preparation in advance. This is important when we equip the premises andwe develop its design. A small living room, fulfilling only its intended purpose, will be beautiful, cozy and warm if it is not overloaded with unnecessary furniture and accessories, the right color of the walls and ceiling is chosen, and the lighting sources are skillfully distributed.
Wall color
The light pastel colors of the walls expand the space. However, this does not mean that bright colors in small rooms cannot be used. Dark rich coatings are effectively combined with light furniture and a white ceiling. It is better to choose plain wallpaper, but if you really liked it with a pattern, then it is recommended to paste over only one wall with them, turning it into a decorative panel.
Furniture & Design
A small living room should not be crowded with bulky furniture. You should abandon large cabinets and walls, no matter how comfortable and roomy they may be, and replace them with light shelves and built-in shelving, as if “dissolved” on the surface of the wall. A very good solution for small spaces is to use the window area (which, as a rule, is not involved in the interior) to accommodate narrow and light open cabinets. Of course, the center of any living room is a soft group consisting of a sofa and armchairs, as well as a small table. Upholstered furniture does not have to be placed along the walls. A successful layout would be a composition in the center of the room of small double sofas-transformers, especially if you complement it with an electric fireplace against the wall and a TV panel.
Light design
Smallthe living room should be well lit. Various light sources visually expand the space, create a special atmosphere and comfort.
In a small room, the central ceiling chandelier can be easily abandoned, replacing it with hidden lighting around the perimeter of the ceiling, spotlights and ceiling spots with directional light.
In the recreation area, floor or table lamps with large lampshades are installed. Additional cozy light sources are wall sconces and overpaintings with a weak directional light flux.
Textiles
Heavy layered curtains overload the interior design of a small living room. The photo above shows one of the best options for decorating a window in a small room - these are light white curtains combined with a Roman blind or blinds that will darken the window if necessary, but leave a small room bright and filled with air.
