Machines or saws designed for trimming or cross cutting lumber, such as building moldings, beams, boards, etc., are called trimmers. This equipment is used in the woodworking industry, namely in the furniture and joinery and sawmill production of medium and high power.
The trimming machine consists of the following parts:
- Box-shaped frame (the shaft with the gear is located in it).
- Saw shaft (driven to motor).
- Electric motor.
Operation principle
The shaft is in a swinging frame. With the help of a hydraulic drive, the saw travels along the bottom surface of the table. This type of equipment is great for sawmill production. The workpiece is securely fixed by a hydraulic cylinder during operation. There is an automatic fixation before lifting the miter saw thanks to a common hydraulic cylinder. When using the correct design of the clamp, chips do not appear on the surface. To increase the safety of work, a locking system is used that disables the crosscut saw, two-hand control, and electrodynamic braking.
Cutting machine happens:
- single saw;
- double saw;
- multiblade (with mechanical and manual feed).
Single saw cutter
During operation, the single-saw trimming machine performs the following functions. On the carriage, consisting of a bracket and a platform, the workpiece is fed to the saw, which moves along the guides along the rollers. At the same time, this device moves with the help of spikes sliding in the grooves, and has a fixed guide ruler located perpendicular to the saw blade. A special tool is used to clamp the parts. The stop, set parallel to the disc, limits the length of the trimming.
Twin Saw Trimmer
Two-saw trimming machine processes parts from two ends. One saw is mobile, the other is tightly mounted on the shaft. The carriage runs on the inner guides.
Universal and circular saws
For cutting at an angle, across or along, universal or circular saws are used. Trimming is done in two ways. In the first, the batch is cut off on one side without a stop, and on the other - until it stops. In the second, work begins without a stop, then the stop is thrown over, the bookmark is turned over and trimmed on the other side until it stops. The second method is preferable by turning over the packs and throwing the stop, since in this case much less time is spent.
Saws
Cutting saws are used in work for trimming boards andbars.
Their varieties:
- Pendulum (with a vertically suspended frame).
- With a straight-line spindle. They provide hinged connection between themselves, have horizontal guides.
- Balancing saws with a horizontal frame that oscillates on an axle and has a spindle at the end.
In such machines, a manual or mechanized device is used that feeds a saw spindle onto the material being processed. It itself is located under the table on which the board is sawn. In production, articulated and caliper machines with straight feed to the workpiece are more common.
