Soviet instruments are a special topic that you can talk about for hours. For some, they are a symbol of inconvenience and a complete lack of ergonomics, but many will remember their quality and durability. Remembering the history of logging in our country, one cannot ignore the Druzhba chainsaw.
Their mass production was established in 1955. It should be noted that already three years later "Druzhba" received a gold medal at the exhibition of technical innovations, which was held in Brussels. By the way, the saw got its memorable name because of the celebration of the next anniversary of Ukraine's entry into Russia.
Starting from the 1990s, even private enterprises began to produce spare parts for these saws. Despite the fact that years have passed since the release of the last original model, the Druzhba chainsaws remain in service to this day.
The design includes a single-cylinder carbureted two-stroke engine. Cooling - air, the working volume is 94 cubic meters. see Note that the numeric index in the name meanspower in horsepower. So, the Druzhba-4 chainsaw is equipped with a 4 l / s engine, and models with the “E” index are equipped with the most modern electronic ignition at that time. Despite the antediluvian lubrication system of the power unit, it was on these saws that the technology of independent saw bar lubrication was first applied, which dramatically increased the tool life. In addition, it was finally possible to use saw chains with different tooth pitches. All Druzhba chainsaws are equipped with a reliable and simple inertial clutch.
Because of this, when the saw is overloaded or the tire is bitten in a tree, when the engine speed drops sharply, its connection with the chain is instantly broken, which avoids stopping it and damaging the tool itself. In many ways, it is precisely because of their simplicity and maintainability that they are still used by millions of people throughout the territory of the former USSR. Moreover, the very name of the Druzhba chainsaw has become truly a household name, and in some republics of the former CIS, any gasoline saw is called that.
Unfortunately, the weight of the instrument is truly epic and is 12 kg. But when working in not too difficult conditions, almost any oil and low-quality gasoline can be poured into it. So, the power unit is able to work quietly even onlow octane fuel. For the first time, an inertial brake was used, which greatly increased the safety of its use. That is why the Druzhba-4m chainsaw has become so common among professional fellers.
This also contributed to the location of the controls. Although this arrangement is unusual, today it will allow you to saw even large trunks while standing, while with many modern saws you have to kneel to do this. If you take care of the saw even a little, then it can work up to 30 years without any special problems. With it, you can not only fell the forest, but also harvest lumber of quite decent quality.
