In the construction of buildings, regardless of the type of roofing and roof structures, some types of work are standard. This is the implementation of the rafter system, the installation of the crate, the laying of the "pie", which includes several layers, such as insulation, waterproofing and others. At the same time, it can be noted that for the qualitative implementation of work, it is necessary to choose the right materials. So, roofing mastic is often used for insulation, which is commercially available in various types. Consider the application and varieties of this material.
Types of waterproofing material
Roofing mastic is a binder made of organic compounds with a filler, which can be used as substances such as asbestos, mineral wool, slag, quartz, talc and others. These additives improve technicalmaterial characteristics (increase strength, resistance to thermal effects, reduce brittleness in frost, etc.). In addition, antiseptics and herbicides are added to mastics to prevent the appearance of fungal formations, lichens and other invasions.
Depending on the type of organic matter, the following types of mastics are distinguished:
- bituminous;
- tar;
- combined (rubber-bitumen, bitumen-polymer and others);
- polyurethane.
Also, this material can be conditionally divided depending on the method of use into the following types:
- Hot roofing mastic - this type of binder raw material is used in a heated form to fasten roofing material, roofing material and other coatings. In addition, they are used as a protective layer for roof structures. As a rule, this type of roofing waterproofing has the designations MBK-G-, where in place ofthere are numbers indicating heat resistance. Depending on the region of the area and the slope of the roof, mastic with a certain heat resistance is used. For example, for northern latitudes, for a structure with a slope of less than 2.5%, the use of MBK-G-55 is recommended.
- Cold mastic - this raw material is used for the purpose of sealing when processing the junction of coating sheets, when laying roll material for roofing and repair work. When used, this type of mastic is diluted with solvents (white spirit), gasoline, solvent and others.
Use of material forroof waterproofing
Conditions and methods of using this material may be different, but you can highlight some points that are the same for all types of mastics:
- Cold Roofing Mastic can be applied with a spatula, and when using a brush or when applying in bulk, it must be diluted, while the allowable level is no more than 30% of the solvent.
- Liquid mastic should be applied to a flat, clean surface, on which a primer coat of bituminous primer must first be applied.
- When performing work, care must be taken, as the substances that the roofing mastic contains are toxic. Therefore, in order to protect yourself from poisoning, it is recommended to wear goggles, a respirator (when applying hot mastic), gloves and special clothing.
- Hot bituminous roofing mastic is prepared, as a rule, on special equipment at the factory. Self-preparation is also possible, but it is necessary to prepare a container around which a brick lining is installed. Also, the tank lid must be tightly closed. The heating temperature is about 180 ° C, while the solution must be constantly stirred, excess impurities must be removed (for this purpose, you can use a metal sieve or other similar device). Hot mastic should be prepared 2-3 hours before work.
Roofing mastic provides a strong hermetic connection of coatings, and the waterproofing layer is even, strong and sufficientlydurable. The use of this material helps to prevent the appearance of fungal formations and corrosion damage, which improves the quality of work performed.
