Drawing is a complex process with many nuances that requires certain tools. One of them is a drawer. What it is and how it can be used is described below.
What is it?
Initially, this word has two meanings. The first is the "pen-holder for the stylus". The second is "an adjustable pen with which you can draw." The first case in the world of drawing is quite rare, as it is easier to find the right pencil. That is why now the drawing pen is a drawing tool for drawing ink lines.
Depending on the species, it looks different, but the general structure is similar. This is usually a handle made of hard plastic or metal, to which the tip is attached. It may or may not come off, be made of different materials, but in any case, it must have a small nut that holds two small pointed plates. Its adjustment affects the thickness of the line, which is obtained after filling the gap.
Tool history
Reissfeder was invented in the 18th century. At that time, it was part of the mandatory set for creating accurate maps anddrawings - preparation. It was an advanced toolkit that made it possible to accurately create the necessary images.
At the beginning of the 20th century, it was significantly improved. The inconvenience of the tool was that it was difficult to handle the ink, it always ended, flowed, and so on. It was to eliminate these shortcomings that a rapidograph was created - a tool with replaceable cans of ink of a certain diameter.
Now the drawing pen, pictured above, is not that popular in drawing circles, but is still important for drawing, calligraphy, iconography and other arts.
Types of instrument called "raisfeder"
What is it and who invented it, we have already figured it out. Now it is worth saying that there are several different types of instrument. These include:
- single head rake feeder for drawing one straight line at a time;
- double drawer with two fixed heads for drawing two identical lanes per run;
- crooked leg - a pen with a movable head that allows you to draw curved lines on the patterns, can also be double;
- circular, in which the writing part of the compass is the head of the drawing pen;
- it can also be linear, knife-shaped or with thick cheeks - according to the shape of the head.
Reisfeder, the photo of which is below, is an old instrument, the design of which has changed only with the advent of the rapidograph.
Where does it apply?
Used tool for various graphics tasks. Their list is quite wide, since clear lines of a certain thickness are necessary in many situations. These include:
- creating drawings, for example, when planning buildings;
- for drawing topographic maps on paper;
- outlining drawings of a certain style, drawing manga (Japanese comics);
- in icon painting, for example, to draw a halo;
- much more.
That's why questions about drawing pen tools - what they are and how to use them - are important for many professions, from builders to comic book creators.
Usage details
Looking at the drawing pen, what it is, you can understand better. According to its structure and features, there are some nuances of its use, which are important both for drawing and for other graphic works.
Firstly, the tool must be held as straight as possible. This is done so that a broken line does not form above or below. If you tilt the tool too far to the side, one of the plates will no longer touch the paper, which will lead to an undesirable effect. This is especially true for a drawing pen with a movable head - it must move strictly perpendicular to the drawing paper, otherwise the moving part will not be able to “ride” normally along a given curve.
Secondly, it takes skill to use effectively. Drawing a straight line so that the ink does not leak under the ruler or there are no blots and unnecessary waves is almost impossible the first time. It is worth practicing and focusing on the draft, and only then move on to the original.
Thirdly, thick lines are drawn somewhat more difficult. Two neat thinner lines are drawn along the upper and lower borders of the wide strip, then the middle is filled with ink using a brush or other similar tool.
In this case, the more personal practice, the more aesthetic and correct the drawing will be.
Fillers
You can fill the distance between the plates in the drawing pen with various fillers. In official drawings, this is determined by experience and GOSTs. Lines of a certain thickness will not work with an incorrectly prepared composition.
Usually this is ink, since black clear lines are needed in drawing. A less common application of a drawing pen in color drawing requires pouring paint. Here it is very important to correctly observe the consistency of the composition so that it does not spread in the tool, does not fall under the ruler and does not spoil the final result. The reverse situation is possible, when due to too thick filler the line will not work at all, since it will not drain onto the paper.
Instrument care
For effective drawing, it is important to keep the tool in perfect order. To do this, after each use, thoroughly clean the drawer and carry out preventive work:
- wash with soapsolution, then alcohol;
- plates must be the same length;
- their thickness should also match and be thin enough, about the size of a hair, while sharpening the tool can only be done from the outside;
- Using chromium oxide, polish the outer and very carefully the inner parts, and then gently finish the sharpened edges.
Regular care will help you get really good results. Before working with a clean copy, it is recommended to make a couple of test lines on an unnecessary sheet of paper to make sure the line parameters are correct.
Reisfeder - a tool for drawing and drawing. A sought-after item in both science and art, which, if properly applied, will give you a quality result.
