Rubber-bitumen mastic is a multicomponent mass, a mixture of tar or oil bitumen. As a rule, substances such as fibrous and pulverized fillers are used to obtain it. Mastic acquires its qualities of heat resistance and hardness due to the absorption of oils on its surface.
This material contains the following ingredients:
- rubber;
- petroleum bitumen;
- solvents;
- fillers;
- plasticizers.
Rubber-bitumen mastic is used to isolate underground and surface structures made of steel, structures, pipelines. It is often used in the repair of bathrooms, loggias, in the creation of wooden structures, pools. Mastic bituminous insulating protects against corrosion. This product is free of toxic solvents and toluene.
Classification
Material can be characterized by various features. Given the type of binding elements, there are bituminous, bitumen-rubber, bitumen-polymer mastics. Depending on the method of use, hot, cold, preheated to a predetermined temperature are isolated, notrequiring heating, but with an ambient temperature condition above 5 degrees.
The most common differentiation by purpose. Rubber-bitumen mastic is used for various purposes: insulating, gluing, asph alt, anti-corrosion.
Application
If you set yourself the goal of gluing rolled materials that will be used for waterproofing or mounted on multi-layer roofing, then it is better to use adhesive mastics. But there are some nuances regarding bituminous roofing materials. For example, rubber-bitumen mastic is suitable for gluing rolls of glassine or roofing material. If the roof is covered with a less durable material, then tar options are used.
When it is necessary to create a cast or plaster waterproofing, or a binder type of material is needed for the manufacture of boards, it is better to use insulating mastic.
On serious objects (for example, hydraulic structures) or for filling waterproofing joints, a hot bitumen-mineral variety is used. It is made from the same bitumen with the addition of a mineral filler. These impurities can range from 30 to 64% (depending on requirements and conditions).
Working with material
The rubber-bitumen mastic is applied by mechanized method in several layers. The result should be a total thickness of 10 millimeters. More than one hour lasts the setting process. Canuse and manual application with a brush or stroke, if there is such a need. If the ambient temperature remains at 20 degrees for 48 hours, then complete drying will occur during this period. If the temperature is below 15 degrees, then working with this material is highly undesirable. In a confined space, it is necessary to provide normal flow ventilation. It is important to observe safety precautions, as hot mastics must be heated to 180 degrees.
