Rubber crumb is a wonderful material that has a wide range of applications. Due to the mass of positive qualities, its use in laying coatings is very effective. They are especially relevant in sports and playgrounds, as well as in industry. There is a bulk, tiled and roll coating of rubber crumb.
Rubber coating
Rubber crumb is a collection of granules of various shapes made from crushed and recycled automotive rubber, retaining the molecular structure and properties inherent in the original material.
To obtain a high-quality coating, it is necessary to add a binder, which consists of polyurethane, to it. It gives the material elasticity and enables strong adhesion to the base. When used, the rubber crumb coating is reliable, resilient and durable.
The material is produced in rolls or tiles. Coloring is carried out by adding different dyes. Coatings made of crumbs have an uneven surface, which eliminates the possibility of slipping. They can be used in all weather conditions, as dirt and water do not collect on the surface.
Scope of application
Anti-slip, safety, wear-resistant rubber crumb coating is widely used for construction:
- gyms, stadiums, tennis courts;
- playgrounds;
- livestock buildings.
This material is also used in various industries. Crumb rubber is used in oil production in the manufacture of mixtures intended for well operation. It is also used in the production of sports equipment, in rubber products.
Seamless crumb rubber coatings are widely used in civil and road construction. When added to asph alt, a high-quality material for sidewalks and roads is obtained. It is also used for the manufacture of products of various coatings: paving stones, carpets, tiles, self-leveling floors.
Benefits
The coating, which includes such an element as crumb rubber, has the following advantages:
- Sustainability. The material is resistant to temperature extremes, bends and tears, UV rays.
- Wear resistance. Products made from this material have a long service life.
- Aesthetics. Thanks to a widecolor palette and its combination has a beautiful, attractive appearance. It is resistant to fading and exposure to aggressive environments (alkalis, acids, solvents).
- Hygiene. Rot, mold, weeds, insects do not occur on the coating.
- Elasticity and security. Rubber crumb material does not emit toxic substances and is harmless to he alth. It has anti-trap and shock-proof, as well as anti-slip properties.
- Easy care. The coating does not shrink, grass does not grow through it. It is easy to clean and can be vacuumed indoors. Does not create problems when replacing the damaged area.
Laying steps
In the article we will give an example of how to lay a self-leveling coating of crumb rubber, designed for a sports field. It should be noted that it can be used both indoors and outdoors.
In order for the coating to turn out to be of high quality, it is necessary to strictly follow the technology of its installation. At the beginning of the process, it will be necessary to prepare the surface and perform priming. Next, the coating itself and the monolithic layer are laid. And at the end of the work, markings and a finishing varnish layer are applied.
Surface preparation and primer
Sports rubber crumb coating is usually applied to a wood, concrete or asph alt base. For good adhesion, the surface must be cleaned of dirt. If concrete acts as the basis, it is moistened with water, polished, then dust is removed with a vacuum cleaner. Outdoor work is carried out at air temperatureabove +5 degrees. As a result, after the end of the first stage, the surface should be clean, dry, slightly rough.
The next type of work is priming, which should provide good adhesion, impregnate, remove dust, and strengthen the surface. To do this, use the primer ADV-46, ADV-56, ADV-17. Each of them has its own characteristics and purpose. It should be selected based on the conditions for applying the primer layer. After the end of this stage, you need to proceed to the next one, the break should not be more than a day.
Laying the coating and the monolithic layer
Do-it-yourself crumb rubber coating is not difficult to do. If work is carried out in the open air, you need to make sure that during the day after that no precipitation is expected. A special mixture is being prepared. The following calculations are for a layer thickness of 0.1cm over a 1m area2. It will take: 7 kg of crumb rubber, 1.5 kg of binder ADV-65, 0.3 kg of pigment. All components are mixed in a concrete mixer. The resulting mass is applied to the base, covered with a primer. The site is leveled with rakes. Then it should be rolled with a roller lubricated with release agent.
If the coating is laid indoors, a monolithic layer will be required. It provides mechanical resistance. First, the site is covered with ADV-61 putty to close the pores. A reinforcing mesh layer is placed on it. After 24 hours, the ADV-61 compound is poured. Thickness 1.5-2.5 mm. Alignment is carried out with a doctor blade and notchedspatula.
When performing work, the optimum air temperature is +20 degrees, humidity is 80%. Operation of the site is possible one week after laying the coating.
Final stage
When the main work is done, markings must be applied to the crumb rubber sports floor. It must be dry and clean. Air temperature during painting - from +5 degrees. Marking is carried out with a mixture of the following components: ADV-17 oligomer, coloring paste, catalyst. Application is by roller or brush. Consumption per 1 m2 - 200 grams of the mixture. Coloring should be done in two layers.
To make the rubber coating more resistant to wear and have a beautiful appearance, it is varnished ADV-63E 24 hours after laying. Application is carried out with a velor roller in two layers. Consumption per 1 m2 - 0.05 kg of varnish. Break between coats 3-6 hours.
Boldly lay crumb rubber on sports fields. This is a great option for exploitation for these purposes, and not only.
