The problem of autonomous heating in private homes is quite acute. This issue is resolved through one of several pipe routing methods. A single-pipe heating system is recognized as the most effective, as it is cheap, and its installation is not particularly difficult. It is worth considering it in as much detail as possible.

Single-pipe heating system: basic elements

The standard version is a closed ring, which has the following components:

  • boiler as the main heating device;
  • water as a coolant;
  • radiators;
  • expansion tank used to regulate the pressure of the circulating system;
  • piping;
  • shutoff and control valves;
  • drain taps.

Single-pipe heating system: principle of operation

The heat supply pipe comes from the boiler, is placed around the perimeter of the entire house, and then returns as a return. The connection of radiators in this case is carried out in series at the inlet and outlet. With natural circulation of the coolant, the supply pipe is usually placed at some slope to make a natural height difference. The coolant enters the first radiator, then the second and so on. Each battery is supplied with a valve for air release. It is clear that the radiator that is closest to the boiler, that is, the first one, will be the hottest, and the one that closes the circuit will be the coolest. In order to equalize the temperature in all rooms, taps are installed on the water supply pipes to regulate the water supply.

If the pressure is reduced in a battery that is heating up more, then the coolant will be delivered to the next radiator hotter, since it will not lose energy to heat up the first device. A single-pipe heating system allows you to regulate the heat supply quite effectively, so that you can set approximately the same temperature in all rooms. This should be taken into account when using it.

Calculation of a one-pipe heating system

There are certain points to consider in the planning process. If the area of the room is large enough, then natural circulation will not be enough, it is required to plan the installation of an accelerating collector or a silent pump. When planning vertical wiring in two-story houses, it is necessary to take care of sufficient thermal insulation of the attic space. On each pipe that goes to the central line fromradiators, it is imperative to install control and shut-off valves, which will allow you to control heat transfer, and will also provide an invaluable service if you need to repair one of the batteries. If you are interested in a single-pipe distribution of the heating system, then you must first calculate the heat costs throughout the entire heating plant - it is necessary that it be rational.

In conclusion, it should be said that if you have chosen this method of organizing heating, then you should carry out installation and commissioning in advance, that is, before the onset of cold weather.
