The electric jigsaw is a surprisingly popular tool. It was especially liked by home craftsmen, who are unlikely to miss the chance to do something with their own hands. With it, you can easily cut almost any material that may need to be processed at home.
But the performance and accuracy of the cut depends on the saw blade for electric jigsaws, a lot depends on the correct choice of which. When buying, you need to look especially carefully at the marking.
What are they like?
They differ among themselves in shape and size, in the way of sharpening and setting the teeth, as well as in the materials from which they are made. When choosing files for electric jigsaws, it is imperative to take into account the thickness of the material being processed. There are no difficulties here: its length should be greater than its thickness, and you must also take into account the amplitude of its movements when sawing.
Tooth Options
It is easy to determine the purpose of the file just by looking at its teeth. For example, saw blades for wood jigsaws have a pitch of 2.5 to 4 millimeters. If this indicator is 1-2 millimeters, then you probably have a tool designed for cutting metal.
If we talk about files that are adapted for "cutting" ceramics and similar materials, then there are no teeth at all on their surface, since they are replaced by abrasive spraying.
If you are confused by the unusual wavy shape of the tool, then do not worry: it will come in handy when sawing soft metal.
What are they made of?
They make saw blades for BOSCH electric jigsaws and the like from high-quality hardened steel of various grades. It is these brands that are indicated by engraving on the working surface:
- Marking "HCS" (High Carbon Steel) denotes blades designed for sawing various kinds of soft materials and wood. They are highly flexible.
- The engraving "HSS" (high speed) distinguishes a tool designed for cutting hard metal. Has little flexibility.
- All jigsaw blades for wood marked "BIM" are bi-metal, combining the advantages of both types above.
- HM-marked carbide tools can be used to cut ceramics, tiles and similar materials.
Checking the shanks
It is known that the file is fixed in a special clip. The fact is that the clamp is designed exclusively for a certain type of shank. Jigsaws of some manufacturers haveuniversal clamp that accepts any jigsaw files. But this is a rarity, which is an exception. However, this can often be found on a Chinese-made tool.
No matter how trite it may sound, we will once again remind you that you should only buy jigsaw files from authorized dealers. The acquisition of a fake is fraught not only with a damaged workpiece, but also with the failure of the tool, since too high loads are placed on the engine. Savings in this case is unacceptable, since post-warranty repairs will cost much more.
