The benefits of office chairs cannot be overestimated. Only they can provide us with maximum comfort during prolonged work at the computer. And all because the details of the chair can be set with the most optimal slope for their anatomical features. The slope of the handrails, the backrest, the height of the chair… Stop. But on the last point, we would like to dwell in more detail. Probably, each of us thought about how the height of the chair is adjusted. Today you have the opportunity to unravel this mystery, as we now take a closer look at the mechanism for the gas lift chair and find out how it works.
Design
This mechanism is located between the seat and the wheels and is a long metal pipe covered with plastic on top. Outwardly, it resembles a dump truck body tipping mechanism. In fact, their principle of operation is the same, however, only its dimensionssignificantly differ from dumping mechanisms in a smaller direction. Often, a gas lift for a chair has in its design an air cartridge measuring 13-16 centimeters (depending on the type of chair itself). The higher this value is, the higher he can raise the chair.
Working principle and device
And now in more detail about how the gas lift works for the chair. Immediately, we note that its principle of operation is very easy to understand. And all his work consists in the following. The steel case, which we can see under the plastic skin, contains a small cylinder inside. It has a rod with a piston, which ensures the raising and lowering of the entire structure. In the cylinder itself, as a rule, there are 2 reservoirs, between which there is a valve that drives the gas lift for the chair. It can open or close, and the direction of movement of the stem will depend on what position it will be in now.
If the chair is in the lowest position, the piston is at the top of the cylinder. When you need to raise it, by pressing the lever, the piston presses on a special button, which opens the valve between the two chambers.
At the same moment, gas enters the second chamber from the tank of the first chamber, as a result of which the device begins to slowly descend. In this case, the seat itself rises. When the button closes, the gas supply to the tanks stops, respectively, the stem freezes in a certain position. If the seat gas lift needs to be lowered,under the influence of an additional load (the mass of your body) and pressing the lever located at this mechanism, the gas moves from the second chamber to the first, while the piston rises. Thus, the seat is lowered again.
Can it be repaired?
Unfortunately, this mechanism cannot be restored in any way. If the tank has been damaged, the replacement of the gas lift in the chair is inevitable. It should be noted that there is gas under high pressure inside the device, so the manufacturers categorically do not recommend opening this device, and even more so hitting it with a hammer.
