Video: Different Types of Electrical Boxes 2024, April

Not so long ago, just a couple of years ago, in order to distribute electrical wiring in a residential area, there were 3 types of standard boxes. Today, taking into account the development of modern technologies, importers and manufacturers offer a large selection of such products.

Even in the days of the USSR, any junction box contained special clips for secure fixation, and also had several options for attaching to the wall. Like most of the things produced then, it was made in good conscience and for centuries.

Today, a soldering box and terminal blocks are offered for sale separately. When choosing it, you need to pay attention to the quality of the plastic from which it is made. If there is an unpleasant smell, sometimes cutting the nose, it is better not to purchase such a box, as it will melt at the first heavy load.

Clamping part

As mentioned above, any junction box contains special terminals that have direct contact with the wires connected to the box. They aremade from different types of metals. In most cases, it is aluminum or copper. This fact must be taken into account when choosing a box. The metal from which the terminals are made must match that of which the wiring in the room is made. If they do not match, electrochemical incompatibility occurs, since each has its own characteristics. As a result, a reaction occurs, leading to the formation of oxide on the surface of the wire, which can lead to a short circuit.

Features of electric clamping jaws

Not all screw terminals, as you can read above, are the same. Their main differences are the material used in their insulation, and the shape. The material used in the production of insulating elements of clamp terminals for a product such as a junction box can be polyethylene, polyamide, carbolide, etc. All of them differ in operating temperature and, accordingly, are used in different objects.

Types of terminal blocks

Not all terminal blocks on the market today are exactly the same. Their main difference is the material used for insulation and the very form of the clamping mechanisms. Of the materials, polymers are often used: polyethylene, polyamide, carbolide, etc. All their differences come down to the ability to withstand different temperatures.

As a rule, polyethylene pads are white and resistant to any type of aggressive environment (solvent, water,s alt, grease). This material is malleable and cuts effortlessly with a knife.

Polyamide terminals, which the outer soldering box has, do not support combustion, which excludes the possibility of fire. Can be used on any type of object.

The terminal blocks that the open wiring junction box has can also be spring-loaded. In such cases, it can also be used in industrial facilities, since the maximum voltage that it can withstand is 600 volts.
