Cooking is always accompanied by such unpleasant things as fumes and soot. A kitchen hood with a tap can eliminate these shortcomings. An outlet is an indispensable thing in the construction of a pipeline or duct. The concept, types, characteristics and requirements for the installation of branches will be discussed in detail in this article.
What is a "retraction"?
Bent is a duct element that directs the air flow in the desired direction. Modern range hoods use outlets made from a variety of materials such as black, stainless steel, galvanized steel, aluminum or PVC.
Also, there are bends that are designed for lateral emissions. They are additionally equipped with protective walls or perforated sheets that prevent debris from entering the ventilation.
Benefits of diverter hoods
Kitchen hoods with a vent to the ventilation have a number of undeniable advantages. These include:
- high levelcleaning;
- high power and performance;
- savings due to no need to change air filters;
- affordable price.
And of course, the undoubted advantage of such models is the removal of unpleasant odors outside the room, which guarantees high-quality air purification.
Disadvantages of kitchen hoods with outlet
No matter how tempting hood bends are, they still have their drawbacks. The disadvantages of diverter hoods include:
- high noise level;
- difficulty mounting the hood;
- need to install air duct;
But based on the purpose and purpose of the hood, namely cleaning the room from unpleasant odors, burning and soot, removal is the best solution for fulfilling the intended purpose.
Classification of taps
In the construction of domestic air ducts, different models of kitchen hoods and, accordingly, different outlets are used. Elbows are classified according to the type of material used for their production:
- Galvanized bends. For their production, black steel with a thin zinc coating is used. The advantages of galvanized bends are low cost and corrosion resistance.
- Stainless steel elbows. They are rarely found in duct designs due to their relatively high cost. These models are produced exclusively with a small diameter, for installation in domestic ventilation systems.
- Bends made of black steel. Roughing bends mainlyused for the construction of industrial ducts. They are of low cost. The main disadvantages of this material are susceptibility to corrosion and unaesthetic appearance.
- Plastic bends. They are used only for the construction of domestic ventilation. In the process of their production, polymeric materials are used that are resistant to loads and deformations.
Special requirements apply to each type of branch. Elbows, the GOST of which is prescribed for each individual brand, differ in strength, thickness, service life and other parameters.
Which branch to choose - plastic or corrugated?
The most popular exhaust outlets are plastic or aluminum ducts. Plastic bends can be round and rectangular, and corrugated ducts can only be round.
When installing taps, you should pay attention to the quality of connections of all structural elements. Therefore, when buying a plastic outlet, it is recommended to immediately buy the parts that come with it, so that in the future there will be no problems with the installation of the duct. In turn, corrugated products do not need additional elements, since they are highly flexible, and they can also be easily stretched and compressed. Therefore, the installation of an aluminum corrugated duct is less laborious.
The installation process of this model consists of only two stages: the first is to fix the edge of the pipe to the ventilation hole, the second is to connect the duct to the outlethoods. Another advantage of the corrugated aluminum branch is its low weight. The disadvantages include: a high level of noise, approximately the same as that produced by steel bends, and the accumulation of fat, burning and soot inside the duct.
Plastic bends look much more beneficial in terms of operation, as they have less resistance, do not accumulate dirt and work without creating unnecessary noise.
Bend section
In addition to the classification of bends by material type, when choosing a duct, there are several other factors to consider, such as the shape of the duct section and the configuration of the shaft.
When buying an air duct, it is recommended to choose a round duct section, as this type has the best aerodynamics. But if the kitchen is located in a small room, then the round outlet will take up a lot of space and look rather unaesthetic. Therefore, to install the hood in a small room, it is better to opt for a hood with a rectangular duct. Such a model is mounted on the ceiling and, accordingly, takes up less space. But you should pay attention to the fact that when installing a rectangular duct, you will have to purchase additional adapters.
Bend diameter
For the effective operation of the kitchen hood, it is necessary to choose the right diameter of the duct. In order for the hood to work without unnecessary noise and regularly remove contaminants from the air, you should choose bends with a similaroutlet diameter. To calculate the diameter of the required bends, GOST has developed a special table for calculating the diameters of the duct. When using a duct with a smaller diameter, the exhaust power and, accordingly, the level of air purification are significantly reduced.
In addition to the diameter of the outlet, it is also worth taking care of how it is located. During installation of the duct, it is important to avoid sharp and right angles. A 90 degree bend loses up to 10% of the extractor power.
Installation of hood with outlet
To properly install a branch means to ensure its efficient and high-quality operation. To install an extractor hood, you first need to calculate the distance and location of the hood above the stove. The space between the exhaust system and the gas stove must be sufficient so that the hood does not interfere with the use of the working surface of the stove. The optimal distance between them is 75 centimeters.
When building a duct, it is important to remember that access to fresh indoor air must be maintained. To do this, mount a special grill with a valve in the duct. When the hood is in operation, the valve closes, and when it is turned off, it opens to ensure normal air circulation.
When installing steel or corrugated bends, it is necessary to think over their path to ventilation. Due to improper installation of taps, the hood can lose up to 30% of its power. Therefore, when considering the path of the duct, make sure that the pipe does not havesharp or right angles. As already mentioned, retracting 90 degrees of a bend contributes to a decrease in the efficiency of the exhaust device.
To reduce the noise level of the hood, you need to pay attention to the diameter of the outlet. It must be larger than the outlet of the exhaust device. The type of device must also be taken into account. For example, flat hoods are attached to the wall, while island hoods are attached to the ceiling.
If you follow these simple recommendations, the hood in the kitchen will work as efficiently as possible, without causing unnecessary inconvenience to residents of the house.
