The method of drawing pictures

Stained glass ceilings are divided into two types according to the type of drawing:

  • assembled from several glass elements;
  • film.

The film stained-glass window includes two layers: a polymer film with an image and a glass plate. This type is cheaper (the price for such stained-glass ceilings is about 10,000 rubles / 1 m²), although less durable, since the film can be easily damaged. If you treat it with high frugality and care, then it will serve you for a long time.

Stained glass ceilings, which include separate glass parts, are highly durable and reliable. The plates are interconnected by veins of copper or lead. They are perfectly settled in banquet halls, showrooms, apartments, clubs, restaurants and homes. The cost of their square meter will cost 30,000 rubles.

Production technology

At the moment, there are a huge number of technologies for creating stained glass ceilings that allow you to create all kinds ofdesign solutions. Let's learn about the most popular of them.

Printing on stained glass

Photo printing on glass is a fairly new design solution, through which you can embody various bold ideas: a picture, a photograph, as well as some specific ornament. To make a stained glass ceiling, the photo of which is presented in this article, with a print, you should apply the best processing option, for example, a photographic image, to a polymer film. Then this film with the finished image is cut into squares and glued to the glass.

Sandblast stained glass

Sandblasted stained glass ceilings are frosted glass with a certain image. Matting is carried out by supplying compressed air to the prepared surface.

After repeated processing of the plate, its shade and roughness change, namely, it becomes matte. With the help of stencils, transparent images or various matte patterns can be applied to glass in the same way. Using this technique, you can create artistic compositions that are not divided into separate parts, and together with decorative lighting, such a ceiling will always attract the eye.

Contour ceilings

Designers creating stained glass on the ceiling were primarily inspired by stained glass windows, which were very popular in ancient times.

For the manufacture of contour ceilings, polymeric bumpers should be applied to the glass according to the previously drawn up plan. They come in black, gold or silver oror completely colorless. Then enamels or varnishes are applied between the polymers. They come in a wide variety of shades, due to which you can bring any original and unusual compositions into reality.

Tiffany Ceilings

They include various glass elements wrapped on the sides with tin or copper foil. This technique makes it possible to make a horizontal and domed stained-glass window on the ceiling. You can also use embossed, transparent or frosted glass in one composition, and this allows you to create a unique interior in the apartment.

Those who do not have the opportunity to purchase such expensive products can make a stained glass ceiling with their own hands.

Glass painting

You will need the following tools to work:

  • Stained glass - we will paint it. To get started, you can practice on something inexpensive, for example, on a frame or a mirror.
  • A sketch created according to the dimensions of the composition.

  • Solvents.
  • Cotton swabs to eliminate irregularities at the time of staining.

Installing glass base

To make a stained-glass window on the ceiling with your own hands, you must consistently follow the steps of work. It should be borne in mind that glass, being the basis of the composition, must be thoroughly washed and wiped dry. When carrying, you need to take it in such a way that there are no stains or marks left on the edges. The glass is placed on the prepared sketch, then the outline of the drawing is created on it. Large details are applied with a marker, and a tip is needed for thin ones. Once the drawing is complete, you must wait half an hour and then apply paint.

English stained glass technique

The world-famous Tiffany technique, which is notable for its complexity and laboriousness, was simplified by the masters, due to which the English stained glass technique arose. In this case, the stained glass ceiling is assembled from solid sheets, and not from small pieces of glass.

The list of tools for this method is significantly reduced:

  • stained glass film processed with a knife, roller, scissors and laid with a spatula;
  • sketch;
  • tape will be soldered with flux, solder and soldering iron;
  • lead tape, special presser needed for smoothing, and tape cutter.

Installation

There are 3 mounting methods:

  • Installation withoutsuspended ceiling design. This method implies that the fastening will be carried out in a decorative ledge located below the ceiling level.
  • False ceiling installation. This method is the most popular. In this case, the niche of the frame should not exceed 15 cm, so that it remains possible to fix the glass plates of the stained glass window for additional organization of lighting.
  • Installation in the form of a "box". This method of fastening is used when it is necessary to fix the ceiling in the form of a box - a large lamp.

Illuminated stained glass ceilings

With well-arranged lighting, the light penetrating through the glass panels in the room will create a unique, special atmosphere.

There are several ways to organize the backlight. For example, light sources can be placed along the contour of the stained glass window from the inside or behind it, in the middle. Although the ceiling will look most spectacular if its entire surface glows. To do this, you can use neon pipes or fluorescent lamps, but at the moment, LED backlighting is considered the most popular. It has a huge number of advantages: it is easy to install, takes up minimal space, has a long service life (about ten years), it is possible to control the color and brightness of the backlight.

To mount this type of lighting, the distance from the ceiling to the stained-glass window should be 10-15 cm. The LED strip is attached to the surface of the stained-glass window in parallel rows at the same distance.

In general, the stained-glass window is not used as the only source of light, since the light, penetrating through the glass plates, loses its saturation. Therefore, additional lighting devices are placed in a room with such a ceiling, this is especially important when decorating various shopping centers in which lighting plays a major role.
