Main characteristics and benefits of gypsum
Gypsum is a natural material that has unique properties and characteristics that are unique to it. This is one of the safest materials that are used in finishing work. It is relatively inexpensive, environmentally friendly, and therefore ideal for interior decoration.

Varieties of cornices
Gypsum ceiling moldings vary in shape and color. According to the method of production, they can be divided into two groups:
- Smooth. Products without decorative design will suit any interior, but look better in a classic design. More often they are installed where no frills are needed in the decoration.
- Decorated. Original cornices with a relief pattern or a unique ornament will ennoble the room, add zest to the interior design. Designers most often use this type of skirting boards, as they can be used to create a unique style.
It must be taken into account that in a room with high ceilings, small plaster decor will look like a narrow and nondescript strip. In such rooms, it is recommended to install smooth plaster cornices.

Installation of ceiling cornices
It is carried out after major repairs: installing windows, wiring, leveling walls and ceilings. Installation of gypsum cornices is carried out using water-based glue or putty. For light products, this is enough, and bulky cornices can be additionally fixed with self-tapping screws. In this case, white or yellow screws are used, which do not rust over time.
Work starts from the corner of the room. Here it is necessary to attach two cornices and cut the corners correctly. They join at an angle of 90°. To do this, you need to make a cut so that the gap between them is minimal.
All cracks formed when joining gypsum cornices must be sealed with putty using a syringe. Excess funds are carefully removed, trying not to damage the decorative surface.
After all the skirting boards are glued, they can be painted bronze or gilded. With a small brush, the product is superimposed on the convex parts of the eaves.
Most often, gypsum cornices are decorated with plain paint, but you can create various effects on their surface. Sometimes they are decorated under a stone, they create an imitation of cobwebs or cracked paint. But the leader of the coating is the white color, because it can be fully called universal.
Use in room design
The main thing when choosing gypsum cornices is to choose the right size. Here it is necessary to take into account the height of the ceiling. For smallapartments, low skirting boards (2–4 cm) are recommended, which will not “eat up” the wall space.
Massive cornices can be installed in rooms with high ceilings. There are almost no restrictions in the design of such premises. Skirting boards with a relief pattern or ornament will look harmonious here. The only limitation is cornices with small decor.
Manufacturers have most of the range of products with ornaments or thematic relief, but it is necessary to use such gypsum cornices on the ceiling with care. They are not always combined with a certain stylistic design. All this must be taken into account when choosing skirting boards.
The second most popular among manufacturers can be considered products with a geometric pattern. They will suit neoclassical and ethnic interiors, as well as art deco and modern styles.
For a classic style, baroque or empire, cornices with a floral motif are suitable. They look harmonious in spacious rooms with high ceilings.
The use of gypsum cornices in the design gives the room a sophisticated and finished look.
